FTOPS Event #8 is coming up and its a Pot Limit Hold'em tournament. I want to do well in this, and I was curious if anyone had any experience/suggestions on how to approach a Pot Limit tournament differently than a No Limit tournament.
- NO Limit house game stradegy.
Hello guys I play in a home game 2 times a week.
Its Texas Holdem NL 40.00 buy in.
The Small/Big Blinds are .50 1.00
Its a "Friendly game" so its not like anyones trying to make a living at it...
Its also good because out of the 10 that usually show up only about 3of them really...
- laying down Ks preflop....
Kinda just wanted to get the general opinion on this as it seems that a lot of the time lately I've been running my pocket Ks into aces.
Now people will play AA pretty much 1 of two ways. They'll either just flat call, or reraise. With this in mind if someone raises and then you reraise most...

- Two things happened the other day
I was playing $1/$2 the other day, and these two things happened.
1. for the first time in my life i hit a straight flush, I had 6, 7 d, flop came 5 d, 8d, 8c, i was betting on the draw, the turn came Ks, and on the river 4d hit... i couldn't believe it, this guy went all in for $36 and i was more...

I was thinking about this just now and wanted some input from some of the THP community. Say that im holding a high PP like AA or KK and the flop is all low cards. - How to build a pot with rocks
Ok, heres the question. You're holding JJ pre-flop. You raise the pot a tiny bit, get two tight players to call, no reraises. The board comes 58J rainbow.
Do you just bet the pot right there, bet a little, or check? I'm wondering what the best way to build a pot is against rocks.
I'm assuming...

- chips already bet into the pot
many times, the "experts" have said, in regards to limit, money games, that once you throw your chips into the pot, to not regard them as "yours", they now belong to the pot, and that they should not figure into your decision to remain in the pot after raises/reraises, etc.. should this apply as well...

- what would you do?
I’m little blind in an unraised pot with A5o. Flop comes A66. I bet $2. Big blind raises to $4. Everyone else folds and I call. Garbage on the turn. I check and BB goes in for $10. He was big blind, so he might have a six. He also tried to bluff me earlier and took a big hit, so I figured he wouldn’t...
- pairs under the gun
I put soomething in the wrong forum I suppose, therefore here again my question how to play any pair under the gun in a NL tourney.
Thanks,
- Final two players in NL tourney
I frequently play in 5-10 player low-buy in tournaments. Against this competition, I end up being one of the final two players about half the time but very rarely win, regardless of who has the chip lead.
I think I start out too cautious and keep losing blinds. I finally lose my patience and bet...
- Fustrated
I was at a small games this weekend. It was tourament style with only 7 people at $50 a person. Anyway, I was with my brother and a friend that I regularly play with and I know they know what they are doing.
The other 4 were new players and I really thought they would be easy (and they should have...
- Right or Wrong
I was in a tournament over the weekend with about 24 people. (Usually we have 30+ but we had a few no-shows this month) Anyway, I was gaving a real great night. I made all the right moves.
Top 6 make the final table. With only 7 people left (4 at my table, the other 3 were waiting), we just needed...
- Protect your pair?
I’m button w/ AcTh in .5/$1 NL. There are 4 limpers before me, I limp in, so with the blinds, 7 see the flop, which is As Jh 7h. Little blind bets a dollar, and everyone calls. I think about jacking it up to $5 to protect my aces, but with so many people in the pot I figure someone had to have 2 pair,...
- no limit at home
HI, I have watched no limit on tv recently. I would like to know the best way to approach a no limit home game. We have been playing for quite a while and I have been successful at making some money ( although we play more for the fun ) Most of the big pots I win are when I am able to draw a big hand...
- Time limit in home games??
I played in a home game last weekend. There were two tables of 7 players each. The table that I got stuck at had a player who took approximately 10 minutes to decide what action to take. This would be no big deal really if there was an all-in or a large bet on the table, but he took 10 minutes EVERY...
- No-Limit Poker Principle #1
My Poker lessons are lessons that I learned usually for the first time the night before. Last night I was playing No Limit Texas Hold'em at Hustler Casino in Gardena California. I think this will become my new home casino. The people there are nuts and the staff is disorganized, but the facilities are...
- Tournament question
I'm not much experienced at tournament play yet, but I had this happen recently and was wondering if I did the right thing. 6 players left in a small tournament (~15 players total). Average stack is about 5000 chips, and I have about 3500. Blinds are 200/400, so I need to make a move. First player...
- no limit on line
Hi guys, I have yet to play online no limit, in fact, I have yet to play online for money at all. So, I sat in on a game for just a couple of minutes to watch. I didn't have much time, btu I wanted to know if anyone here plays no limit online. From the couple of minutes I saw, it seemed much like limit...

- Calling 'time' in live NL games?
First time poster, hello...
I figured this would be the best place to ask, I was playing some no limit side games while a tourney was going on at a casino near me. I have a little experience in NL tourneys and have NEVER been asked to call time while deciding whether or not I wanted to bet. At the...
- Low limit player trying to cross over to...NL!
I have been playing for a while low limit texas holdem and in the near future I would like to cross over and play the cadillac of poker, the NL Texas holdem.
What is different from the low limit games in terms of strategies?
Please give me some pointers to begin with......
Thanks guys.
- Tournament analysis. Did I make a bad move here?
Its mid-way in the tourney. 20 players left out of 40. $100/200 blinds. I'm sitting with A-Ko on the button, on a table with 7 players. Person under the gun raises to $300. Everyone folds and it comes to me.
Now I thought back about how this guy has played and bet all night - he was on my table...

- HOME TOURNEY INFORMATION
Does anyone have information or know where to find out how to host a HOLD'EM tournement. I am planning on 20 - 40 players showing up. There has to be some kind of format somewhere. I would like to avoid coming up with my own from scratch and risk leaving out some vital information.
I already...

- Pot limit monthly tournament.
We hold a once a month pot limit texas hold-em tournament with 8 people with payout to first and second place. So far the problem we have run into in the two times we played was the last two hands have become a betting frenzy, where all of the players who are not in first second or third place have...

- NL strategy
I feel that the power of connectors and mid range cards are very key in NL poker. A 67 might be a better hand than AA in some of the tight NL i have been playing online. If i see a tight rock raise preflop, i am willing to gamble with anything just because i know that i will get paid off if i hit.
