I'm an amateur at best, and have played over the past 7 months using the super system style, as well as playing with basic odds charts and calculators as are on this site. The agressive play had definative advantages at first, even though my bankroll was on a rollercoaster. In the end, after six months,...
- To Call or not to Call?
I read on a website that to decide whether to call, you compare your % chance of winning to the ratio pot:bet. If your chance to win is higher than pot divided by the bet you need to call, then you should call.
The author, however, calculated the % chance of making your draw (flush,straight,etc.)...
- Novice Question
I'm new to poker, mostly playing free games online to practice. When I play cash games, I am usually comfortable with my decisions - regardless of how good or bad they are, at least I know why I did something. Free games tend to be very different though. People play very loosely, so that raising 7,8,...

I've always considered A-x suited to be a decent speculative starting hand in fixed limit Hold'em. - A General Theory of PP's and Sets in Limit
I'm curious to know people's opinions on this subject. My own views have changed greatly over time, from playing highly aggressive with almost any pair to only limping when I'm getting 7.5-to-1 pot odds, to now finding a comfortable middle road. Specifically, I interesting in hashing out a mathematical...
- Calling from SB in MTT's
Ok i know everyone says how if u get 7 to 1 u should all no matter what u have
but for the sake of discussion lets take this example
u are in a mtt, blinds are 100/200 with 25 ante with 8 players at the table
u get 2 limpers when it gets to you in SB, BB is a guy who never raises from BB, UTG+1...
- Some questions for the limit people
Today I started multitabling (3 tables) micro-stakes limit, and I must say it was great fun. Very relaxing compared to low stakes no limit, and multitabling made waiting for hands easy and wasn't as nervewracking as multitabling no limit games.
The games were pretty soft, lots of callers, usually...
- Folding AQ
The last couple of days, I've folded AQo and AQs 5 times to a re-raise. All 5 times it has been in the mid stage of the SnG, around the 100/200 level...I raise 3xBB, then get a re-raise behind me. The re-raise, if called would have commited 40-55% of my stack each time. Maybe I'm to weak/tight, but...
- went bust here.
Was in a sng and got A J, forget the suits.
Saw a small raise preflop.
Flop came J J K. I put in a raise and preflop raiser went all in.
Now only 2 hands can be beating me here, I think. K J or KK.
I called and he had K J...
On reflection I thought maybe I could have folded. I wasn't short...
- Should I assume at least One has me beat?
Early in a SnG, so I don't have any information on the players. Was my reraise too small? I figured JFF must be really strong since he was following a raise and reraise.
I personally think I made a good fold, but some might consider it too tight. Opinions?

BB=60. Hero is EP+1 w/QQ.

hero was confident that the bb wasn't stupid enough to try a bluff into 5...
- The LIMP/RE-RAISE Play
Last night in a SnG I encountered an interesting hand and thought I would get your suggestions.
I was on the BB and picked up QQ. The pot went unraised with 3 limpers. I put in a 3x Raise and then UTG PUSHED after limping. Everyone else folded and then it got around to me. I was the chip leader...
- SnG, always all in on AA?
Last night at a SnG I saw AA get busted by KK in the first hand. The AA went all in and KK called.
I made a comment about how I would have a hard time going all in on the first hand with anything and the guy who got bounced said that pushing in is automatic with AA.
Is this true? I know AA is the...

I tend to play low (22, 33, 44, 55, 66, 77, and 88) and medium (99, TT, JJ) in the following ways. I was curious if these are indeed the safest ways to play these hands. Any advice would be great. Assume average table with a few good players, a few average players, and a few poor players. Online NL at...
- Anyone else use this play?
So I was playing in a Turbo SnG on stars. In the SB, I get dealt AA at a very good time. The new short stack at the table only has 280 chips left with the BB being 200. He obviously pushes.
Being in the small blind, I just call the additional 180 chips, hoping to get someone to reraise to isolate...
- Too Tight?
For some time now, I have been wondering if my play is too tight. For instance I woulden't play KJ off on the button 8 handed etc. Here is an example I have AQ off in middle position with blinds of 10/15. I raise 70, one caller, an all in from the small blind for about 250, and a call from the big blind....

- Flopping Top Pair
I need some advice on playing when I flop top pair. I play low limit ring games (0.50/1.00) and have pretty high starting hand requirements. - NL Starting Hands Q?
Ok so I have been curious about something.

- Is conventional poker wisdom sometimes wrong?
Recently I've played a good deal of head's up live. The style is NL games, no leaving the table unless bust or doubled up, deep stacks and no blind increase. Even though the play is deep, the action is generally on the laggy side.
This subject is one of the things that fascinate me the most with poker...

last night i played a 6 handed Ł5 freeze out tourney. start with 500 in chips blinds start at 5/10 (increasing every half hour)
so we are down to 5 players blinds at 10/20:

So I'm wondering, what range of hands will everyone play in nlhe from the SB in an unraised pot? I am pretty strict about what I play, even if the pot is unraised. So you have an overpair, but are obviously afraid of a higher...
- The "Information Bet"
I assume everyone knows what I am referring to. I realize this is a very basic concept that about every good poker player uses. I am just curious how much you typically think is enough to gather the information necessary to judge the strength of your opponent's hand.

Technically, you should almost...

- Basic odds
I'm beginning to doubt myself...
I always assumed that if you had an outside straight draw on the flop, then you were a 4-1 shot to make your straight on the turn and river.
Likewise if you have a single ace versus KK preflop then you have a 30% chance of catching an ace on the board.
Am I wrong?...

OK lets have it.
Early in a 10$ STT. I prolly look a bit LAGGY but have the chip lead, albeit mediocre. The table is limpy and passive and Villain is playing tight early doors. He's seen two flops in the first two orbits and folded on the flop both times.

I get so confused when I watch this happen on TV. Someone looks at their hole cards, likes them and says "All-in" They end up losing. However, they are not out??? How are they not out if they lost while going all in. I always see this happen on WPT etc. I get so confused...
- Overcard Calls in Loose Limit Games
Overall, if you have a hand like AK in a limit game, and you miss the flop but have odds to call down to the turn and river (about 3.1-to-1 on the flop and 6.7-to-1 on the turn), should you almost always do it?
My argument for or against this would depend on the game. In a reasonably tight game where...

I was dealt Ace Queen unsuited. I bet, and many folded. Someone raised, and I re-raised. After this, only 3 players were left. The flop was 9 Q 9. I bet. One player folded, and the last player left raised. I called thinking top two pair with ace kicker was very decent. The turn was a 10 and the...

- calling raises in the BB with Ace rag
Turbo texas holdem advocates calling a raise in the BB with Ace rag. The theory, I suppose, is that you're getting atleast 3 to 1 to call, so it is worth it, in hopes that an ace flops and they have a pocket pair.
The thing is, if an ace flops and they have a big ace, you stand to lose quite a bit....
- Free cards seem harder to come by these days.
Something I noticed on Party the last few days: raising on the flop in LP with a draw isn't nearly as successful as it used to be. One thing I hate is when I get a run of bad cards, so I don't see the flop for a while. Then when I finally get a hand, no one wants to give me any action because I've been playing so tight.
So, I was thinking that I need to give myself a limit, where I have to see the flop every so often, just so...
- AJ
I have problems with AJ. I think I understand the basics of it. I don't call raises with it, unless I know the raiser to be very loose, but I'm often unsure whether to limp in or raise pre-flop with it.
Short-handed, I always raise. I raise from mid or late position if I'm 1st in or with just 1 limper....
- Help
Whenever i join a game at partypoker.com the people always raise before the flop and i usually end up with a bad set of cards. Can you give me a link or tell me what to do. Also can u tell me what is a good set of cards to have before that flop and which i should and shouldnt bet on?
- Stealth Hands - 3oaK and two pair
Here's my thinking:
Potential flushes/straights are easy enough to spot looking at the board and you could sometimes make presumptions that the top pair is somewhere among the players however I feel that two pair & trips (based on a pocket pair plus one from the table - particularly the low ones...
- Help! Home poker game
I need some advice on a home poker game. This is a non money game just for pride. There are usually 8-10 players. We start with $2000, and the big blind starts at $50. Every 30 minutes the big blind doubles.
How should i play under such rules? Do i need to play more loose/aggressive because of...
- Creating a 2nd income
I have been playing on-line for 3 years now and while make a small profit playing, I would like to start making alot more (who wouldnt)I made a decision 2 weeks ago to try and turn my game from purely just enjoying it to a potential good 2nd income. In the last 1.5 weeks I am $1,100 in profit but still...
- Paying too much to define a hand
Had a good session at the Trop on Saturday night, but I leaked a few bets at the end. This situation came up at in a fairly tight 6/12 game. I think I know where I slipped up, but I'd like other eyes on it.
I get A:heart:K:club: in MP. UTG folds, UTG+1 limps, I raise, folds around to the SB who...
- Home games that seem like kindergarten games.
I play in a very loose game, hardly any raises pre-flop, suck-outs all over the place. $10 buy-in with an average of 7-9 people. I play very-tight early on(mainly because the blinds are very small compared to the starting stack and because of everyones reckless play). I just wanted to hear some input...
- is there anything i could of done
I was playing a pl $10 buy in game today, and i caught Q7 :diamond: on big blind. Everyone checks to see the flop which comes Q 5 2 rainbow. I check and the guy behind me raises $2, the guy behind him calls and i reraise pot which is like $7 now. the first guy folds and the second guy calls. the turn...
- Suited Aces or Suited Connectors?
Let me qualify the setting for my poll question. In a live, low-limit game where players tend to play looser than they would at higher stakes or no limit, are suited connectors really much better than an Ace and any suited card?
The rationale most poker tacticians give for playing most suited connectors...
- Suited Flops
Can someone explain the proper strategy to have when all 3 cards on the flop are suited in a suit you don't hold, but the flop gives you either a set or 2 pair?
The problem with betting into this flop (besides the obvious one that someone may have already made their flush) is that against weaker players,...
- Playing heads up with pocket pairs
Can someone explain the proper strategy when you're holding a high pocket pair playing heads up against another perosn who is also holding a high pocket pair?
e.g. Both players raise 3x BB preflop. I hold QQo, he holds JJo. Flop is all rags. I bet the pot. He calls. Turn is a rag. Do you bet...
- Slowplaying
I've had enough of this. I had quad 7's cracked by a runner-runner straight flush the other day because I gave 2 free cards. Seems like I can't even slowplay a straight flush without getting outdrawn. And then I can't even complain about someone being an idiot because I gave 'em 2 free cards!
If...
- Super-aggressive game
I've found a live game near my home. I don't really like the structure, but if I want live action, I don't have much choice. I like to play 3/6 limit. This is a 1/2 NL game, with buy ins between $75 and $350.I can't afford to lose more than $150 in a night, so that's my typical buy in.
The reason...
- Player notes, bad or good?
I've recently started taking notes on my opponents' play, and must say that so far nothing good has come of it. For instance, one day I'm at a table with a player I have notes on, I click the note and it says "fish." (probably from when I was multi-tabling, because I take really simple notes then). "Good...
- League Strategy, help me!!!!
I have never joined a poker league before and don't know what my goals should be. Here is the layout of the league:

- Skill and luck, what's the ratio?
I've been playing alot and studying the game for about 7 months now and I feel I've made very good progress for such a short period of time. - did i play this situation correctly?...
ok... i was in a b&m tournament this saturday... there were about 30 people entered and the top 3 were in the money.. i beat my first round table and made it to the final table.. it was a no limit tourney and there were 6 of us at the final table and it was just starting so everyone had pretty much...
- when your opponents play you
The other day I was in a pot-limit SNG, and there was one player who woluld call whenever an opponent showed strength, and then bet the max if the second or third card paired, or if a straight or flush could easily be made. Players like this give me trouble, so I avoided playing pots with him, but once...
- How to play a constant slow player.
One of the guys in my weekly home game has got me stumped. He slow plays almost every hand. No matter what he has it’s check and call, check and call. Then on the river it’s check and raise. Usually a huge raise. At this point, I either call him to find out he has the nuts or fold (probably...
- weak top pair vs. many opponents
I'm in a low limit game, with 9 :spade: 8 :diamond: in the big blind. Everyone limps, I call, BB checks. The flop is:
8  7 :diamond: 3 :club:
I consider betting, but then I think if it checks around to someone in late position, I can check-raise and limit the field. UTG bets and gets 5...
- Playing pocket pairs online
Here's my problem, I'm a half decent player, pretty tight/aggressive., but like to mix it up and sometimes play a lot of hands. I can usually be a dominating force around the table. But my achilles heel is that when playing online, I always (say 80%) seem to lose when dealt pocket pairs. Up to 9-9 I...
- Feeding the rake
Suppose I have an Ace, and the board is K,Q,J,T,2, not 3-suited. I bet and and an opponent, whose game I don't know, raises me. I will often just call the raise, figuring that my opponent would not have raised me without the ace, and if I re-raise and he caps, we're each contributing an extra 2 big bets...
- Walking back to Houston
I'm in a SNG with 2500 chips, blinds are 75/150. I get AK on the button, with 2 lipers, and raise to 800. A limper with a stack as big as mine calls me. The flop is Q,4,4, and he checks to me. I figure he probably missed the flop, so I bet half my stack, hoping to take it down. He plays back and I...
- How do you play preflop out of the small blind?
Say you are in the SB in a limit poker game with 3 or 4 limpers and no raisers on the table, and on a table with a mixture of tight and loose players. What additional hands do you play preflop in addition to the standard preflop calling hands due to the fact that it doesn't cost as much to call the pot?
- SR or SPR
A reason some of us are very poor poker players stems from the fact that we have very weak R’s. The reason we have weak R’s is we have weak P’s. This is because we have not taken the time for a good P.
One of the many things that sets mankind apart from most animals is that we are capable of...
- Bets Preflop...But Checks on the Flop...?
is a guy like this usually trying to steal the blinds?
or could he be slow playing/hoping for a draw?
- Calling a raise when you've alrdy called a bet preflop..
My question is how often will you call a raise after alrdy calling a bet?
Say you have something like QJo, you call the initial blind, its raised after you. doyou call?
does it depend on the number of callers? who raised? ect..
Im guessing its wise to fold hands like A10 and K10 preflop if raised...
- How Should I Play Against Pocket Pairs?

can someone plz define these terms for me? thx!!!
- If it's good enough to call.....
I see a lot of hands in online NLHE where people put in a substantial bet pre-flop way out of position and get 2, 3 even 4 people call it flat. It always amazes me that people will do this. If they consider their hand is strong enough to call a bet like that, it MUST be good enough to raise but this...
- Playing Pocket Ace on Loose table
this is for a home game with about 8 players. We start with $2000 with $2 blinds. The guys I play with play very loose. Almost any preflop raise less than 10x the BB is called immediatly by almost the whole table.
What should i do if i get AA pocket? I know i suppose to raise big preflop to...
- Milking the tighties ;)
This is about live games. Holdem NL, usially 5-6 ppl. Tourney style.
In the group I play, i'm able to win pretty much consistently, but i don't think i do my best and i still want to advance. so here is the problem: the majority of players on this table are tight (in fact only 1 out of 6 is a total...
- Tourney question - short stacked
I just played in a home game tourney (I'm usually a cash game player). I was doing OK early but caught a run of cold cards and was getting blinded to death. Anyway, I had probably 6-8x the BB and got Ah9h so I decided it was time to make my move. I pushed in and got called by QQ. No help to either...
- KK vs AK
Just to continue the KK discussion.
ScanX=M1kall1ca
K-rug=Krugar77
I have no qualms about going all-in at all. Good real world example. 70% favorite versus 30%. Good move on his part and I didn't feel that he had AA or KK. It was to strong of a move for him to be anything but AK or QQ. Either way...
- loose limit: limping in from late position with premium hand
I've been reading T.J. Cloutier's book on limit holdem (Love this book by the way. The format is a dialogue between TJ & Tom McEvoyso its really easy to follow, and I find myself remembering bits and pieces of it while I play more than I do with other books)....
Anyway, TJ says that when there are...

- Sit N Go Specific Question Regarding KK......
I have a Question Regarding KK preflop in a 10 handed Sit n Go. Are you comfortable getting it allin preflop with KK? Or do you want to wait and see if the flop brings an A to beat you, and cut your losses?
Situations Im thinking of are like this....
1.) Hero is in LP with average stack. There...

- Playing in unskilled group
Hey everyone, I have a question about playing in a casual, not overly skilled group. Now, we all understand the basics, we've been playing together for about a 1.5 years now...we all watch WPT, know how to play, know some tactics, etc. I'd maybe put us at advanced-beginner or intermediate level, mostly...
- betting for info/value
Say you have QQ in middle position in a NL game. no callers to you and you raise 3-4x the blind. Two callers two callers in late position. The flop comes with an Ace or a King. What would you do?
In my opinion, you have to bet to make sure they paired the overcard. I would make the same pre-flop...

I think I really need help when playing heads up. It seems as though me and my opponent are always tied in chips and then like 90% of the hands are just one of us limps in and then we check it all the way to the end. Occaisionally Ill play agressively, but I dont feel very comfortable with it.

- Flop play: Take the pot down now or wait?
I came across this exact situation twice in a SNG a few minutes ago. Here's the setup:
You are in the SB or BB, and their is a raise from middle/late position. You have no information on the player, but he is not a rock and you can assume he doesn't have an overpair. You have a medium pocket pair,...

- Buying Information
One of my MAJOR flaws in my game (probably a result of the occasional idiot) is that I will buy information, then ignore it.
For example, I have A3, flop is A Q 6. Someone bets, I raise (to find out if they have an Ace, also allowing me to save a big bet on the turn or river). They reraise. ...

Hey guys... new here, just got into Hold'em within the last 3 weeks or so. I play a good amount with play money (I know it's not the same, but not 18 yet :P ) and also play with my friends for real money. I usually win most of the time because I practice more and read stuff on the forums.

- Heads up question about S&M HPFAP
Hi guys,
I've been reading the heads up section in PFAP and don't seem to get a point their making (page 203 for owners).

I HATE being this position...
200/400 Blinds
Short Stack - 2000 in chips.
You - 8000 in chips.
Chip Leader - 15000 in chips.
Pre-flop: Short stacks calls the BB. You re-raise to 1200 with a good (but not fantastic) hand. Unfortunatly for you, the chip leader calls, and then the short stack...

I'm wondering about this hand, so I need solid info if you are to respond please.

Just looking for opinions....
1) Top hand (AA, KK, QQ, AK) in SB or BB. Playing 1/2, I don't see a point in raising since everyone's that limped in will just call anyways. I'd rather hide the strength of my hand.
2) Same situation but in late position with no or 1 limpers. Just call to hide strength...

- Preflop Raise
I may get some major disagreement on this but I have come to the conclusion the the Pre flop raise should be taken out of the game plan with 2 exceptions.
1. When you are dealt pocket aces.
2. when there are only you and 2 other people at the table, maybe three but that may be pushing it.
Let's...
- I am not allowed to slowplay online.
I can't do it. If I slowplay anything less than a full house or nut flush, I get outdrawn. Its gotten to the point where if I flop a straight and there is two cards to a flush out there, I'm all in. I can't get anything for profit this way, but I have to. If I slowplay this hand, or even bet small,...

- AA, KK - A survival hand?
Seems like every time I get dealt these hands I'm more concerned with not getting outdrawn than with sucking money out of people with them. For example, I snag KK on the BB in the early-mid stages of a NL tourney. There are a few limpers. Instead of making a somewhat reasonable raise, I tend to go...
- Outkicked with trips
This happened to me twice in one night in SNG's the other day - a pair flops giving me trips, and I bet the shit out of them and end up losing both to better kickers. What are the odds of two players (out of four seeing the flop) having trips off of the one pair on the board?
Should I slow down when...
- Kx Suited
I would like to take a moment to talk about a hand that gets little respect and by tight players very little play and that is Kx suited. All the preflop charts I've seen give very little credence to this poor, not often used, but highly valuable pocket cards.
Think about this for a moment.People...
- Chasing flushes and pot odds
Something has been nagging at me so you mathmaticians here tell me if I'm on the wrong track. As I understand it if you flop a 4 card flush draw the odds of hitting it on the turn or river is 4 to 1. It is an accepted practise that you only chase it if you have pot odds of 4 to 1 or better. But...

- Suited Connectors
I play my suited connectors from any position. Probably shouldn't from the middle and early position but that's a discussion for another time. My question is in a .25/.50 Limit game should I call a .25 raise with suited connectors? If I am playing them anyway and already have .25 invested should I...
- Pot Odds
I have a quick question about pot odds. Do pot odds include your opponents bet to you as well or does it just include the money that is already in the pot?
For example, the flop gives you four to the flush. Your chance of getting the fifth card for the flush is roughly 33% (if I have any of this wrong...
- No matter where, Cards are cards aren't they?
I know the general consensus in this forum and others and the books has a great deal to do with position and thats where my question lies.

I had AA, KK, QQ, or AK 14 times today, and I only won 2 hands with them. Here is a typical eample of what happens when I get one of these hands. Am I getting out plated, or am I just unlucky? I put my reasons for why I play the way I did in parentheses.

I'm wondering if I made a bad fold. the hand history is below. When he 3 bet me, I thought about what hands he could have, and decided AA, KK, QQ (but unlikely), or AK. Maybe JJ or TT as well. How do you play overcards? Suppose you have KQo and the flop is 259 Now I usually will take it to the turn but the problem I see is that you only have six outs and with 47 cards left unseen that makes your odds nearly 8 to 1. Kind of high for a result that you will have top pair at best Now with...

My hand was 9,4
My buddy had 9,6
On the table was 9,5,5,A,Q
So my question is: Did my buddy win the pot with his 6 kicker (9's and 5's) or do we split the pot with 9's, 5's and use the A...
- limit games
how does limit games work??
say it's a 2-5 table
what is the blinds ???
and how much can i raise if i want to raise??
- Pot Odds
I'm having trouble with the concept of pot odds. I've gotten so confused with Ken Warrens chapter on them. One poker site gave me this strategy.....
Once you hit the flop, you should use pot odds to decide your next action. When you hit the flop, either you will be winning or hopefully winning (with...
- Playing against loose callers
I've been trying to hone my skills playing hold em and have made adjustments to my play style --being more aggressive, better starting hand choices, adjusting my bets depending on position and type of players in the hand, etc etc. But it just seems like in lower limit hold'em it doesn't matter. More...
- getting horrible cards
OK. I played in my first casino tourny yesterday: Turning Stone Casino (upstate NY), 25 buy-in, 5 dollar rebuys the first hour, Limit Hold em. After I got used to playing at the rapid pace and to limit style w/ rebuys i started playing just about everything. after the first hour i had a decent chip...
- Against loose players....how do you know what they have?
When you play against really loose players who play (8, 3 offsuit) all the time it's almost like playing against the blinds. For instance if you have k, 10 and the flop comes down k, 3, 8 and you raise and the other guy reraises. How can you figure what he has?
- what to stick with ?
I have been playing holdem for about a year now, mainly on paradise poker but am after advice.
It still confuses me what I should being sticking with on the hole cards. Time and time I see a pot won where the hole cards havent been that good. Questions like
If you have a pair on the hole cards how...
- Getting dealt shiat on a stick (sorry about the repetition)
I am a new player and was playing at a casino yesterday for the second time. (5-10 limit and I bought in for 250). The first time I went I got some decent cards, made some moves, and things were just going my way for the most part. Anyways yesterday I wasn't getting any playable cards for the first...
- beginner loose player playing almost every hand and winning
Im a beginner and my second time playing at a casino(5-10 limit) there was a kid in our game who said it was his first time. He played almost everyhand and won $340. Often people would not call him and let him win the pot without showing his cards. But when he did get called down he often lost..but...
- When To Go All In
I have been playing mostly freeroll of late and I usually always finish in the top 10 percent or better but usually out of the money. and my chip count is always below the average. I rarely go all in until after the flop. Is this wrong? When do you other players go all in before the flop? On the...
- Button move, how low do you go?
The setting is: NLHE, tournament (mid level), full table. When on the button (or maybe one off, or maybe in the SB) and all fold to you preflop, do you raise with anything and if not, how "bad" of a hand will you raise with. I know this depends on what type of players the blinds are so include that...
- All comments welcome. Seeing The Flop
Ok, my new career as a professional card player has not proceeded all that well. Am down 138 bucks in the last 2-3 weeks. What do you call with to see the flop? In my case Ace anything, any pocket pair and KQ KJ i would call the bet to see the flop provided it was the mininum and not some fool raising...
- Hand(s) Analysis
I played on Ultimate Bet recently and copied my stats to find my problem. The problem is i've been getting slaughtered recently (3-4 days). Losing and more losing. I think I'm playing the same style but I am losing hands that I usually won in the past. I do know that I have not handled some of these...
- 8-9 a monster-hand?
some people only play premium hands. now picture this; you're up against a pair of 5's. he raises X, and you know that this guy has a low pocket pair because he always play them like this. your hole-cards are 8-9, you fold. now if you instead see A-K, you call without a doubt. wouldn't 8-9 be the better...
- HEADS UP PLAY ADVICE?
Local game, $10 buy in, 1st & 2nd pay out....70%/30% b/t 10 & 15 people.
I have played my way down to the last 2 seats the last 3 times we have played. I am getting a good feel for all the players but when I get heads up I can't put them away like I "think" I should. I haven't read any advice on...
- When do I play pocket, suited cards?
I play low limit Hold'Um online, with 4 to 6 players at the table (where possible).
I'm a beginner, but a flush is most often a winning hand, and I seldom see two flushes in the same hand.
It seems to me that if I can see the flop cheaply, I should play ALL suited cards.
I calculated that I'll get...
- A-A or A-K
I have a question regarding pre-flop play. Say I am on or near the button and get one of Sklansky's Group I's. There are a lot of callers also.
Is it best to go-big with pre-flop betting to steal the pot, or take it all or part of the way and build the pot? (I am considering early in the tournament....
- Two Time Checker??
lets say you're in first position... you check... everyone else checks... if you can't make anything on the next card, do you fold, or check again?
i know it doesn't hurt your cards to check... but there's an image to think about as well i would think. i'm wondering if by checking the second time,...
- Chip count
Im looking to buy a 500, 11.5 gram chip set. My question is do i want a set with 4 colors and a chip count of: 200, 150, 100, 50. Or do i want a set with 5 colors and a chip count of: 150, 150, 100, 50, 50. KEEP IN MIND I AM PLAYING TEXAS HOLD'EM WITH 5-8 PLAYERS.
- NLHE Pocket Pairs
I played in a tourney recently and got dealt a slew of pocket pairs in the 1st 25 or so hands. I got pocket J's, Q's, 10's, and the 8's twice. I folded my 8's with 2 pair on board once and found they were best hand as that deal went to the river. In fact the only hand I won with was the Q's and 10's....
- How to play a straight + flush draw
Last weekend I hosted a small NL tourney with some decent players and some beginners. (I being somewhere in between I think)
I was in a middle position with a Ks 10s, limped in as did everyone else.
The flop came Qd, Js, 5s giving me an open ended straight and Flush draw. person in front of me...
- Starting hands: heads up
What do you guys reccomend for starting hands on H/O. I've been told that you can much more loose and that any face card + x work. I also heard hands like 9,10s aren't as profitible in H/O. Another question I've been thinking is how do you calculate pot odds in Heads Up matches?
- playing against beginners
How do you beat a table full of beginners?? Is it possible? They bluff like crazy, stay in with trash hands and draw out on me all the time, will call any bet, and are completely unpredictable because of their ineptness. Is there any way to consistently beat them? Or should I find a new game with...
- How much to raise...
All right, first question.
Blinds 10,000/20,000 your stack 150,000. Preflop, with a mediocre hand, say K-10, K-J or any hand for that matter, what size bet would be good? 3X the big blind? Or what? Then on the flop how realitive to the pot considering it is say, 60,000...Considering you flopped...
- Which Hand would win...
Jack's hand -- Ah + 4d
Billy's hand -- 8c + 5h
comunity cards -- Qs + Jc + 10h + 9s + 8h
this scenario came up and i felt that billy should of won.
Please respond ASAP

- River questions
2 scenarios about the river have been confusing me recently.
(1) I have reasonably led the betting because I had very promising draws, thereby leaving only one opponent, in later position than me. But in the end, I've drawn nothing. Without knowing anything about my opponent -- other than that he...
- When is a preflop raise successful?
In low-limit games, some people recommend limiting pre-flop raises (even with AA) on the theory that most people will invariably call, yet the raise will give away too much information. If a preflop raise is primarily intended to limit the field (rather than increase the pot), then I wonder how many...
- pre-flop raises....
Something I have been thinking about-because it has been working.
If someone raises preflop and 3-5 players call in a limit game, are you better off holding A J or say 9-10 or J-10? Here is the thinking, you call 2 or 3 bets, if the flop comes A Q 6 or the like, get out. If the flop comes 8-9 or...
- Starting Standards
I have starting standars for early position, middle position and late position. However, I'm confused about the blinds. Which category should they fall in?
Also, how should my starting standards change as there becomes less people playing and all the way down to heads-up play?
- Tight or Loose...
Sometimes I naturally find myself playing counter to the table. Loose on tight tables and tight on loose tables. Playing loose on tight tables allows my to win a lot of smaller pots, which make up for the losses when someone catchs a hand. Playing tight on loose tables allows me to increase the size...
- Position
How can you tell what position you're in at a table with any given number of players? Also, what position are the blinds in? And finally, is there any point where position becomes less important (ex. when it comes down to three people)?
- Any tips on good poker litterature?
I have been reading a couple of books.
Warren:Texas hold'em poker
Sklansky: Texas hold'em for advanced players
It's seems that Warren recommeds a much tigher
play with the opening hands.
With out to much experience it seems like
Warrens teories are much more up-to-date.
Does anyone have...
- Total rookie entering 1st tournament. Advice.
Hi,
I am going to be entering my 1st no-limit tourney in September and I need a lot of advice. First, I believe I have good instincts, i.e. good intuition regarding probability & stats and the courage to NOT stay in. The tournament will have a mixed bag of players, I suspect. It's at my University,...
- Skanskys hand groupings and adjusting to a 5 player game
I've been using a mix between Warren and Sklanskys
hand groupings when playing 2$/4$-games.
The games have having 8 to 10 players and
i,ve been quite successful. Using these teories
have given me the edge.
When the game gets down to 7 players or less it's
a completly different kind of game and...
- I have just lost my game.
I have been playing online poker now for over 1 year now.
At first I didnt really know how to play well, I mean I would get excited if I got A6o and an A on the flop. I got creamed quite a few times because my main mistake was that I didnt really see the straights and even flushes at time. Again, I...
- how to play against a loose-aggressive player
I'm pretty new to poker so I have a question...How should I play against a very loose-aggressive player in a short-handed game?? He always raises pre-flop and bluffs like crazy. Thanks.
- Pre Flop Strategy in Tournaments
I'm kinda new to holdem and real new to holdem online.
I've been playing in a few tournaments at partypoker.com both limit and no limit.
Since I'm new, I've generally taken a very conservative approach to my pre flop cards only to realize I should have stayed after seeing the pre flop.
So,...
