Not a big win or anything but certainly worth reporting:
I was in a single-table $1.20 buy-in NL SnG on PokerStars. Early in the tournament I was down to about 1,100 of the 1,500 starting stack and one player had been eliminated. Then, out of nowhere, spousal requirements materialized. No big deal,...

- ICM for dummies?
I recently bumped into the all ICM concept.
I understand the basic idea of it : You decision PF (especially considering push/fold situation) should be based on probable result compared to your share in the prize pool.
However, how do you actually use it while playing in a 15 second decision game?
Any...
- Am I doing something wrong?
I have noticed that I very often can get relatively deep into a MTT tournament, simply by stealing the blinds and winning lots of small to medium sized pots. But I never seem to make it into the money with a big stack.
I've noticed recently that some of the "good" players play very aggressively...

- Building a roll with HU SnGs
Does anyone build their roll by playing lots of HU SnG tourneys? I personally don't but I don't think it is a horrible idea.
The fee on a SnG is nearly always 5% of the buy-in so to break even, your win rate needs to be 52.5% or 21 wins from every 40 games played.
Since you know the swing on a...

Having watched loads of big MTT on TV and the net, it seems that once it down to the FT it is usually Lotto. Sure, you can still few pot with aggressiveness and identifying weakness, but generally its AI PF and let the card do their thing. Seems like there is very little poker going on on FT.

Theoretically speaking-
Say it's early in a tourney, or even a SNG, and everyone's stacks are exactly equal. You are SB, villain is BB, and absolutely no one limps. You have a medium pocket pair, let's say 8's or 9's. You limp, as you are absolutely positively sure villain will push on his option...

Be warned, this post is liable to turn into my most heated, least tactful rant like, ever.
Folks, it is PAINFUL how poorly many people play in the later stages of tournaments. There often seems to be absolutely NO understanding of the effect that big blinds and small stacks has on things. It manifests...
- MTT Attempt
Doyles Room offers a $30 freeroll for 30 E-points so I decided to play in this Sunday afternoon.
My great Sunday continued and I took a quick lead. Every hand I went in on I won. I was up to 2nd in chips out of 999 players.
I was up to almost 50,000 chips and doing good then things went wrong....
- Amazing tournament (long)
So after playing a lot of cheap SNGs to get experience, and studying both HOHs feverishly, I’ve started playing some cheap MTTs as well. 60 cents MTTs on Doyle and $1 MTTs on Party. SNGs devolve so quickly into survival and elimination mode, I wanted to see if I could apply Harrington’s lessons over...

Though tournaments are not my strength, I have signed up to play a double elimination heads-up tournament next week. I guess I'm a glutton for punishment.

Online - Pokerstars - Wed, Jan 4th - $10 NL MTT:
About 1,070 players and I play the game I hope to always play online - tight aggressive. When it got down to heads-up, I have a slightly larger stack...
- MTT hands
$30 DeepStacks on PS. His overbet most likely means he doesn't have a flush. It's still early in the tourney so no reads. Maybe I should have re-raised on the flop? I don't think I need to risk my tournament so early and I'll still have over 200bb left if I fold. What do you put him on?

A $50 SnG at Poker Stars. I've switched to 7 Stud and don't play many SnGs at all any more because I keep running into this stuff no matter what level.

- No cards in MTT
I was playing recently in a live MTT. What do you do when you can't seem to catch two decent cards in the hole when you have 3 LAG's and 2 calling stations at your table? I ended up paying blind after blind and the best hand I had all night was 22 in the BB with a raise and a reraise and two callers...

it's late in a single table SNGt, down to 5, get dealt 77 and raise a standard raise (3xBB, think blinds were 60/120) in EP. player in MP goes all-in for less than a re-raise, making it impossible to raise anyone else out of the pot. button calls, blinds fold and i call. flop is all unders to my PP,...

- Yes Baby, Another One!
After a month+ hiatus from online Poker, I returned today to play in a couple tournaments. I first played a 20+2 3-table Hold'em tournament and placed 2nd. Not bad. Then I just now finished a 10+1 Omaha8 tournament... and took my second MTT win!!! And I was just playing for fun...
Sorry I didn't...
- Keep finishing 4th
Hi there!
After playing many SnG's now, I mostly keep finishing 4th and that is REALLY frustrating me. I easily get to top 5, but then I start to have problems. As an example I was in a game with 4 people left:
player1: 7000chips
Me: 2000 chips
player3: 550chips
player4: 350 chips
The blinds...
- Hungry ...
I'm getting kind of hungry for some THP unofficial or official tournies.
Anybody up for some $10+1 NL Hold'Em or 7 Card Stud this weekend?
I'd love to prove that I'm a halfway decent player even if i'm not playing with donkeys (except supafrey).
- To HurricaneHam
too bad about bad luck
but man 15% flops seen is my usual iin MTTs :D
shame though would be nice if we could get to top togeather and show them some THP mastery :)
- Playing the $5+R right now on Stars...
First two hands I push with...
KK vs AK - Ace hits the turn.
AJ vs A5 - 5 hits the turn.
Hopefully losing to two 3-outers within the first 5 minutes means it won't happen later!

31st of 102 left, Inside the money, just under half of chip leaders stack....... I think the way you're playing you can. Altho you do need to have a big hand hold up! NO 8!!!
Good luck to you, you're going great.
I'm slightly embarassed by my performance, 18 rebuys is unacceptable ...
- How To Win A Tournament
The following is based on a $5 rebuy tourney i played today. During rebuy i made a few crazy plays in order to build up my chips early, about 30 mins in i had about 8000 in chips and i tightened up and waited for big hands, the others at the table had seen enough wild all in's to still be calling me...

- From a $200 Tourney on Sunday
Early in the Tourney a player raised in 1st position of 9 players with 77 and got called and made some bad bluffs into cards that were all high cards. Took his starting stack from 2000 to 1000 just like that. I put a note on this player instantly on this player. The very next hand I am in the cutoff...
- AA/KK/AKs EARLY
I noticed something about my game:
I never slow play them. I always raise big PF and then move in after the flop. (considering no overs and no pairs on board). I always thought this was correct, but im seeing a lot of slow played aces and kings ion the tourneys at Absolute. Can anyone justify...

$10 Rebuy Omaha High at B2B
First prize is €355 (~$400)
Ok, now there. I've jinxed it. :o
- I'm so f*cking pissed. (kicked out with AA)
Here's the deal. I'm playing a tournament at B2B. I'm average stack right after the first break. (~4.5k) I then double up when I flop 543 when holding 76s. The VERY next hand I get AA. The blinds are 200/400 and I raise 1k. Right behind me a HUGE stack (21k) sits. He puts me all in and everyone folds....

In a two table SnG down to 8 players. I'm sitting w/ ~800 in the SB (after posting) with blinds 50/100 and average stack is around 2800 and big stack is somewhere near 8000.

- Do you make the call?
$20+2 DeepStack tourney, still in the first level. It's such a big bet, kinda confused me. So raising isn't an option, but is folding one? I think the problem is that he wouldn't necessarily put me on a 6 by th way I played it. Also, thoughts on my betting?

Ok, so that 64-player tourney... I won it. :)

- Some SnG Bankroll/ROI questions
So I'm going to stick with SnG's only for a while. I really want to build my bankroll and feel my game is more suited to tourney's as opposed to cash games.

I wonder if I'm really playing with fire with this one. Have you guys ever just completely strayed away from the book, and kind of play Gus Hansen/Phil Ivey style? With the right table, it's doable.

- Bodog.com Beginners Tournament and S&Gs: Thoughts???

Well it has happened. I used to be able to lay claim to a 75% money finish ratio in $0.50-$2 SNG's. I started with a $100 bankroll and worked it up in these limits. I have recently joined a 24 man home poker league in my local area. There will be 3 tables of 8 people. Freezeout tournament style, $20 + $5 buy in. The five dollars is for a prize pool for final standings at the end of the season. The top five are paid for the tournament and top five for final standings....
- Close......
.........but no cigar.
A local bar has been hosting NL freeroll freezeout MTT's. They have one a week for ten weeks and the top 5 players from each week go on to the final tournament where the grand prize is a trip to AC and a stay at the Trop. Also, first place each week gets a $100 Amex gift certificate.

- Turbo SNG
UB has turbo SNGs where the blinds are raised every five minutes. The games typically play out in about 45 minutes as opposed to an hour and a half for the regular SNGs.
I think turbo games give an advantage to the aggressive player and they are murder on a tight, passive player. A lot of people...
- Dominated a 2 table $20 SnG yesterday
But I was wondering, are these unusual stats?
The game lasted around 1.5 hours and it started with 18 players.
I only won 5 out of 10 showdowns by the end of the game.
BUT, I won 57 pots without showdown.
Doesn't it seem a bit odd that I won everyone's chips with only 5 showdowns? I do remember...

- Early strategy in online tournaments
Greetings...
Just wanted to throw this out there. I will be playing in my first >$100 buyin tourney this weekend ($200) and wanted to avoid some of the early mistakes that get me short-stacked in the $5 - $20 MTT buy-ins.
Assume 1500+ entries, everyone starts 1500 chips, 10/20 blind levels...
- Man do I suck at MTTs
Seriously, my cash game at both NL and mainly limit has gotten to pretty competitive. I burn up the 10+1 SNGs on UB but I can't money in a stupid 5+.50 MTT for the life of me. I;ve played at least 10 and have only made the money twice, and that wasn't even like close to the final table.
Last night:...
- Event # 2 1500 No Limit Hold 'Em
I'm really happy to see that Alan won it. He was Player of the Year or Newcomer of the Year a few years back. What's really amazing is that Scott Fishman came in 2nd!!!! That's super remarkable... to defend a title like that. I'm really in disbelief about it.
- First hand heads up
We play with a guy who won't let this go. I didn't see it, but here is how it went.
Three players remain. Button busts out, leaving the other two. The ruling at the time was that the button moved in sequence to the player that was the SB in the last hand, making that player the SB again. Of necessity,...
- Interesting Ruling
I was playing in a tournament locally and an interesting situation / disagreement came up. Player one calls the big blind (800). Player two was the small blind and called the big blind also (800). Player three was the big blind and only had 100 more than the blind so he went all in (a raise). Player...

Made the final table in the PS NLHE freeroll today, ahead of 4100+ other people. This is my 4th freeroll final table there, second in NLHE. (Did it once in Omaha/8, and once in Stud/8).
Had some (okay, LOTS of) luck, some good skill, and I suckered some folks pretty well. I'm really happy right now!...

- Big stacks in mtt's
Been playing in a few mtt's recently. Thing is I'm finding that towards the later stages of these tourneys I'm getting players with huge stacks suddenly appearing on my table. - using pot odds in a tourney
Would you risk all your chips in a tourney if you knew you were a 4 to 1 dog and the bet to you would give you correct odds (4 to 1 on your remaining stack)? I was in a tourney this weekend, and flopped middle pair, the other guy raised me all-in, I figured him to have at least the top pair or overpair,...
