i was playing a torny last night when it got down to 2 of us the other guy wanted to qiut and split the pot based on our chips i thought since it is a tourny we should just split the pot what is the proper way to do this ? i was lower in chips but was willing to keep playing but he was not the pot was 200 he got 120 and i got 80 based on the chips i didnt want to argue with him cause it was 4 in the morning and its not worth losing a good friend over but i would like to know this for the next time . please help so we can put it in to the house rules thanks sorry buy the pot i meant the money put in for the torny 10 people x 20 dollers = 200 dollers not the pot in front of us

I have never heard of ever ending a game while there was a pot to be taken. And his idea of splitting it by how many chips is even stranger. You should have finished the hand and then decided to quit or not. That's how to go about it next time. Nothing ends when there's a hand going on.

as for the split u should of held out for a 45/55 Split
like 90dollers for u and a 110 for him
somthing close u guys split 40/60 which is not bad.
but always hold out if u think u got an Advangege Stamala wise.

REminds me of the other day when i was playing in a tourney, IT was getting late and he wanted to call it quits and split the pot, He had a 5 to 1 chip lead over me due to bad bets, I said no and came back to take his stack......lol

For cancelled tourneys on party poker (technical problems) they take 1/2 and divide evenly to all remaining players and split the other 1/2 based on chip count.
This seems pretty fair.
I do think that if you are willing to play and he is not, you have a pretty good arguement for 50/50. But like you said, it isnt worth losing a friend over.

In our game, it is in our rules that if the game is called the money will be split equally. It takes a unanymous decision to call the game, so if the chip leader wants to play it out, the game goes on.
The key, and I think you are getting at this, is to decide BEFORE it happens. People are biased by either the hand they have or the chip count they have if you try to decide stuff during the game. Prior to the game, no one has this bias cause everyone has equal chips and no cards in their hand. This applies to what is a miss-deal, when/how blinds go up, etc.
