My question is, how big should the blinds be? Me and my friends never know what to set the blinds at when we are playing. It never seems to be quite right. Recently we've decided on the big blind being 2% of the buy-in. Is this about right?
eg. 10 dollar buy-in, the blinds are $0.10-$0.20.
Also, in a tournament style, how much should they increase. We are doubling the blinds after each person gets knocked out but this sometimes makes the blinds too big. What is the standard? Thanks.

The main purpose of the increasing blinds is to keep the game moving and have the tourament end at a certain time, and you lose that benefit when you increase blinds based on when people are knocked out.
The blinds should never more than double, and have them increase every 20 or 30 minutes. In my group, we start with $200 in chips, and our blind schedule looks like this:
1/2, 2/4, 3/6, 5/10, 10/20, 15/30, 25/50, 50/100, 75/150, 100/200, 150/300, 200/400...
