Did I play right?
I was second chip leader with 30 players left. I had 320,000 chips ( no limit holdem tourni)
I’m on the button (blinds 6000, 12000), I have Ace diamonds and Jack hearts the first player in, who has 34,000 ,calls 12,000, the next player who has 240,000 calls 12,000, 4 players fold and I call for 12000, the small blind folds and the big blind checks.
The flop. Jack clubs 8 spades 5 spades
First player goes all in 22,000, the next player calls for 22,000,
There are about 100,000 in the pot, I decided to go all in, because I thought the first better looked weak and was all in, and I felt that my ace kicker was strong. And if the second player was on a spade draw he would have had bad odds to call. the big blind folds
He called me, turned over 2 queens and I got busted.
Please advise me if I played wrong.

tough call... after the flop game down with your top pair jack (with good kicker) you were in great position.. unfortunatley the only thing that beat you there was a high pocket pair.. in my mind you made the right move.. it woulda game down to getting a read off the other player (tight? loose) im guessing this was online?

With your chip count and current blinds, I would personally wait for a better occasion to go all-in. J and A would also cripple your hand against a flush draw even if it allowed you to beat another hand, so if you are not ahead your outs are slimming. Trips would own you and If you are up against JJ (allthough unlikely), you are in a world of hurt. You can afford to wait the game a little out and let people knock eachother out when you are bigstacked like that, imho.

I dont like the limp. If you raise 4-5 big blinds or at least pot and the bigger stack calls-then you know you are up against a hand.
He would have likely come over the top, not wanting a A or K on a cheap flop. Then you can fold you decent, but not powerful hand.

I would probably guess I was up against flush draw/set/PP/desperate bluff somewhere.
If I was up against one I would call, but against two - chances are one of them has a hand better than top pair.

Not much of a point calling against another big stack. Hold off and stick to playing against the short stacks with mediocre hands. When you get a monster, then go after someone with a big stack.

I agree with Dave. Put a raise in there pre-flop.
He still might've flat-called you with QQ to get you in the same position, but you've got to figure he'd re-raise, and you'd know to tread lightly post-flop.

I prefer to let my opponents kill each other unless I am certain I have the best hand (A,A). Why chance elimination when by passing you get a bigger check?
A study was done where a player did nothing but check and fold. His avg finish in single table sit n go 4th. He would always beat at least 1/2 the players in larger tourneys. Maybe there is a lesson here. We tested this last night in a single table Razz sng...the dummies finished 3rd and 4th
