Played super tight the whole tourny as usual. Only played 1 hand previous to this, Bullets and took it down without a flop. Then this happens.... I HATE MORONS!

Pretty typical crappy online player nonsense right there...makes a terrible call when he's clearly beat when he's just holding top pair, and runners the shit out of you. Not much to do there but take solace in the fact that for the most part....that doesn't happen and you're in a great spot in the tourney.

I don't see a bad call anywhere. Perhaps there was an over aggressive bet with a very marginal hand in there somewhere. Why should he fold to your raise of 230 with a pot of well over 2K? But that is a rough beat.

I'd question your call of the preflop raise. Pocket 7's are pretty weak against any raise - you're up against two overcards at the very least and most likely need to hit the flop to win. Even if you hit your set, if overcards fall on the flop you still may be against a bigger set. Personally I fold small to mid pocket pairs against preflop raises (even if I've already called the BB) unless I have a really good read on the raiser or the table is short-handed (8 players is not short-handed).

After the flop you were obviously way ahead, but that doesn't justify your preflop call.

I'll pretty much always play pocket pairs no matter what they are for the right price. In this case the raise was only 3xBB and I'll take a PP anytime for that price.

My mistake aces, didn't read the betting close enough, yeah just a lousy beat right there, he can't fold for another 230.

And as for playing pocket pairs, I'll almost always try and see the flop as long as it's pretty cheap, raise of 3XBB or less. Obviously you need a set to win more often than not, but with what you win when you hit that set, it will greatly outweigh what you've put in the other seven times that you've missed. My most profitable hands are low pockets that hit sets, nearly always double up or knock someone out because they won't let go of top pair.

Yeah I agree. Not based on the raise in term of BB, but in terms of your stack. Even if you know for a fact you can double up everytime you hit your set the implied odds are still not with you in this case.

12%*1500 < 88%*300

Obviously if you had more chips relative to the raise it would be a good call.

By this point in the tourny 77 looked like a MONSTER.

This was the only other hand I had played till that point and I usually plays lots of hands in the early stages of tournys if I can... but the cards dictated extremely tight play.
