Posted Sun Apr 24, 2005 3:14 pm GMT by jonesyb
.. ok, been messing around on free tables now for a couple of months and now decided to start playing with some real money.

have signed up with http://www.vcpoker.com/ who i found to have the lowest stakes i could find.. and have been playing on the 5c/10c nl tables and 50c buy in tournaments and stuff...

i know this is peanuts amount of cash but i dont really feel comfortable about playing anything bigger..

i dont really like pl limit tables for some reason... can anyone recommend games i shoudl be playing in to gain the best experience..? i mean should i stay in the pl tables for now till i get get a better understanding of the game?

i am sure there is a nice and structured way of improving how i play etc that someone can advise me of...

basically.. where should a beginner start??

hmmmm..

Start playing thr $0.5/$1 limit tables... it's low risk and a good place to learn. Once in awhile you might try playing a $5 + $1 sit & go tourney to test out your no-limit abilities. Play very tight at first until you're comfortable, then adapt to the table.

Watch the table for a while before you sit down, just to get an idea of what hands people are playing and how.

Remember that each poker variant has its own subtle but important differences that effect the strategy you must employee. E.g. You might take well to NL tournament play but have trouble winning in a NL cash game.

Once you’ve got a bit of live experience invest in some literature, my books have easily paid for themselves.

you can also try royal vegas poker. They have very tiny limit ring games, but they're a bigger poker room.

why thankyou.

i think my vc grind is over though for now. i have outgrown the sngs on there. the $20's take an age to fill up and when they do they are as tight as hell. i dont enjoy them at all. i am most happy with pacific right now thanks to this site. there is definately easier money out than vc when moving to higher stakes.

shame you are not at the wsop this year... we could have had a beverage or two. i will be there. as it happens coutesy of this very site.
