BWHAA!?!?

Little confused by this guy's play on this hand.

.25 .50 6 max NL game at Royal Vegas, table has been nice and soft all night, and I've ground my way up about 30 bucks from my initial buyin and feeling pretty good. I'm MaxPowerSC, on the button here, holding J10o. Yes, I raised, but let's get past that fact, it was a nice soft beatable table that would usually lay down to raises and post-flop raises, so I was stealing my fair share of pots. Gamisou had literally JUST sat down, this was his first hand, full buyin of 50 in front of him. I had about 75.

Game # 336,371,602 starting.
Dealing Hole Cards
Runner73 folded
dog8cat called for $0.50
MaxPowerSC raised for $1.50
good_grief1 folded
Gamisou called for $1
dog8cat called for $1
Dealing the Flop(J 10 3) rainbow, Ok I got terribly lucky here with top two, feeling good.
bkmkr sits down
Gamisou bet for $5 Not sure what this is about, I decide to min-raise to see where I'm at. Maybe I could have raised more, but this was the biggest bet I had seen all night, from a guy I had never seen before. Yes, this table was really that soft.
dog8cat folded
MaxPowerSC raised for $10
Gamisou called for $5
Dealing the turn(3) Feel pretty good about that blank, not sure why he'd bet out 5 with just a three, maybe J3 103, but doubtful considering the pre-flop call unless he was just defending his first blind. Pocket threes?
Gamisou checked
MaxPowerSC bet for $8
Gamisou went all-in for $38.50

Here's where I get completely flustered. I may have out-thought myself on this one. But I wondered, why, on his first hand, would this guy risk his entire buyin unless he had something REALLY good? I decided to lay it down, he mucks, and I'm speechless.
Any thoughts or help here? I'm really completely lost, I'd have loved to have called, but the thought of him turning over a three and me losing a real nice chunk of my dough I had just spent the last hour grinding up was disheartening, as I was going to leave in 15 minutes or so anyways.

A 3, A J, or a pocket pair A A, K K, even QQ....Actually I would say a pocket pair 5's-A's would call the $1.50 raise.

I doubt he had pocket 3's.

Also possible is a 10,3 or J,3...but why call with this garbage.

Maybe he made top pair with Jacks..he had the top kicker (A) and was willing to bet you made a Jack with a lower kicker.

By the way, You made the right call by laying it down. It just isnt worth risking ALL your good work on this one hand.

After the fact though, I saw him in a bunch of hands, and he played incredibly straightfoward normal poker. No ridiculous overbets or wild plays. So having seen his play, I really have to put him on a three, or one wild first play. But the way he played, it didn't seem like he would want the reputation of being a maniac, and by playing the hand out that way, he might have gotten that, unless he really had something.
Having slept on it, despite the slight possibility I had the best hand, there were way too many hands that could have beaten me at that point.

Maybe he had pocket tens or pocket jacks and filled his boat.

And got a weeh bit too eager Smile
