There's a big soccer match in England 2 nite, and i'm a little nervous having some financial and emotional investment in the result of the game. So I need to take my mind off it and my thoughts have turned to poker, and a hand I played last night during which I thought I was stupid, weak and pathetic.

10$ STT, 9 handed, 5th deal of the Game, Blinds 20/40; 1960 in chips
everyone else has roughly 2000.

I know nothing about anyone, and they know nothing about me. Well that's not strictly true. The four previous hands have been played like a low level limit cash game: lots of limpers, occasional minimum raises.

hand 5: sees 4 limpers and i'm in the bb with Kh9d. Flop comes Ks6c5c.
I bet the 160 at the pot and get one caller who was first to act after me. After I'd stopped congratulating myself on making my 1st mistake, the Kd turned up. Time to make error number 2. So I duly oblige and bet 300 this time, thinking that if he's drawing (and in this type of game you never know) I might have a chance. Well I get raised 600 more. So what's he got? And what should I have done next?

He has position on you. He’s shown aggression. If you call you have almost half your chips in the pot and he’s likely to put you all-in on the river.
So your choices here look like a fold or all-in.

Personally I’d fold. The King didn’t help the Club flush draw or the straight draw, so if he’s re-raising he’s probably got 3 kings beat with either:
K6, K5, 66 or 55

My money would say he limped in with a low pocket pair, made 3 of a kind and called your flop raise hoping to pick up some overcalls.

Did you find out what he had in the end?

Thanks Muck - I appreciate the response.

I wish I could tell you what he had, but I can't - I mucked my hand after thinking out for all my time. All I could hear were the faint echoes of the words of advice another poster gave me over on a different thread... "you aint the bluff police"

But I still have my suspicions that it was a bluff, or at least a semi-bluff. Later on in the game, when the table was down to about 6, he caught me trying a similar thing (namely betting at a 2-suited K high flop from the bb into a couple of limpers - I had KTs) and he played it in the same way: calling the flop, raising the turn. Unfortunately for him, I also had a flush draw, and would be so short stacked if I folded that I had no real option but to go all-in if i stood any chance of finishing in the money. it helped that my flush draw hit on the river. But this isn't the point. He called and showed me KXo with no two pair. He had 2 outs at best.

I am still trying to work it out....

Don't dumb it down for these plebs, it's called FOOTBALL and since it was invented BEFORE the game they play in the NFL, it is called football and theirs is nothing more than 'American Football'.

Anyone who disagrees is gonna get themselves banned Razz

i dont fold there, i choose the all in option, in a 10$ sng there and on the 5th deal i suspect its still full of lunitics, they make plays at pots consitently, in my expierence with 10$ sngs he could have ANNNNYTHING the way hes played this, and in a sng you have a Miniscule amount of time to make the right moves and outdue your oppoents, that is what makes me lean towards an all in. You have the opprotunity to establish an early dominate chip lead, and if you are called and lose, you can just open up another one without much time wasted.

On the other end, if you fold hear, your the short stack, although not nearly to short to play, but you have put yourself on a the short end of the stick, and will undoubtably have to make a few power moves.

Another thing, you coming out and betting 300 chips with trips UTG is not what somone would expect from a typical player, and like you said he knew nothing about you, and probably assumed you were a typical player. This may have induced a bluff, as(thought process) how often do you see somone make there move with trips that quick. This is a weaker reason, than the early stage SNG lunatics, which are very very real.

ps, how did the SOCCER game turn out Wink

I am inclined to agree with you Dr. P for $10. As it turned out I made 3rd place, so I got my money back plus some, but I was up against it every step of the way. And it was bit of a slog for $8.

As for the soccer match, well:

Santa Luis Garcia, the spanish pinch-hitter recently drafted from FC Barcelona kicked into the end zone during full court press power play early in the third quarter the score Liverpool a disputed home run. Then there were 35 minutes of commercials.

Liverpool now play Milan in the superbowl. Razz

.... ok I'll get my coat

$600 lost, but I'm still very very happy.
