Different reason for wearin sunglasses |

I have never worn sunglasses at a table before because i want to be able to hide my tells without them, but I have noticed recently that when i start staring at people during the hands they will start acting differently and they will try and throw out more false tells, so I was thinking about wearing sunglasses so they couldn't tell if i was looking at them or just contemplating and i think it might be great for preflop and after flop reads when there are several people in the hand.

I think anyone that wears sunglasses indoors looks like an ass.

We could argue all night about what the single best reason for wearing sunglasses is. But, I still think the answer is "it looks professional". 8)

Advantage: a possibly very slight advantage at certain times under certain conditions when playing against fish who don't know how to hide their tells.
Disadvantage: looking like an idiot and a poser the entire night and having the entire table laughing at you.
If you want to wear them, go ahead. But make sure that you're playing a high-stakes game or sitting at the World Series of Poker. And know that I'll be one of the many people openly making fun of you.

SO your afraid of loking like a tool I wear them on certain occasions. I play with a numch of people and they do all sorts of wonderful tells. The main reason i wear them is so i can look at somebody without them knowing im watching them. And lately this one cash game ive gone to they pick there cards up so high. No matter how many tiems i tell them to not do it. Im starting to take advantage of knowing there down cards. Maybe its unethic. But its also unethic to let a sucker keep his money

Especially if they're gonna spend it all on Ray-Bans and Corey Hart CD's.

if you really wanna get unreadable,
wear a burka.
For athe people that dont know.
its like a huge sheet that islamic women wear so nobody sees their body or face. That will keep u safe on any table. And people will fear u if u make weird noises.
Trust me.

Where might I be able to purchase a "burka"?

the single and only reason i wear them was already mentioned but i feel its important.. you can stare at people when they have no idea they are being looked at

It's laughable at a 3/6 game when you see someone show up in sunglasses ... actually, these go with the t-shirt showing the fish in a barrel and a shotgun hovering above.

Out of curiosity is there a limit to how much you can do to conceal tells? Can I come to a game dressed as a Dalek?

lol @ the dalek thing...
.. i was just thinking nearly the same thing.
however my idea was just a big cardboard box with holes for your eyes and holes for your arms..
super duper..

You could write on the outside “Doyle Brunson Inside”
:D
Actually it sounds more like something that crazy Caro would do

I've been known to wear one of these hats at the table.
I also wear different kinds of aviators and such at the table- I dress a little "rock-starish" when I go out to play. It fits my persona and that's how everyone in the local scene here knows me. If I look ridiculous to some, so be it. I'm not concerned with what other players think of how I dress- I'm concerned about paying my rent with their, "help".

I don't wear the glasses.. all I wear is a smile as I rake their chips.
Although, the big paper box thing sounds fun.
Mine would say "Extreme Makeover" on it. And when people ask where I got it, I'll tell them I borrowed it from their sister.

I will admit that I was picking on a few players last weekend who sat at the $1/$2 NL tables at the Trop with dark shades on. I don't have a problem with players who wear shades, but to me it's a sign that they're not capable of hiding their tells.
I am very practiced at subtleties (I'm a female, it comes naturally) so I don't need to stare directly at them to see them and pick up their tells. Sometimes I will do so, but usually it's just because I like to make them squirm a bit under a direct stare.

Sometimes it's a very effective tactic to sit down at a table looking like the biggest noob possible.
Case and point:
Sometime in march (i'm a college kid) my roommates and I had a large 30+ person tourney at our house. Mostly young and agressive players, a few timid ones and about 5-8 very solid holdem players. But then there were these ten that came over as a group and were overconfident hyper agressive players. These players are my bread and butter since that's the type who first taught me how to play and I've played against him twice a week every week for almost three years now.
These ten guys brag like mad about how good they are, how much money they win, yada yada yada. Despite being rather experienced I decided to give off the wrong impression and so donned my black sunglasses and borrowed a partypoker hat from my friend. My outfit looked the noobiest I could possibly look. I even tried the stupid staredown when put to a tough decision.
For the most part it worked wonderfully...by the time the brags finally noticed that I (and my roommate who did the same thing) were quite good they'd pissed away half their stacks and four of them were knocked out when we made them pay for their draws.
Long story short, poker is all about misdirection...make sure you're exploiting everything that you can; a poker player has such little info to go on that every bit helps in giving the wrong tells. (watch out for backfires though!)

It's a good thing to be the goofball at the table on occasion, and glasses can often establish that.
I play in a couple MTTs a week and I've found that being able to attract your opponents ire can often be a good thing. If you're getting on someone's nerves they will be more inclined to call you. While putting someone into this situation may prevent you from successfully bluffing, you now have a baseline of behavior to work with and predict.
I'm also chatty with people - I try to get them into a mood that they would want to take my chips - this invariably leads to more chips in the pot. Predicting your opponent's behavior is the key to getting chips into a pot you're going to take down./quote

Well for me pesonally i have to wear sunglasses all day at work( i am a crane operator) and have to almost stare into the sun alot. So when i walk into a buildinbg it is almost second nature for me to have sunglasses on. Ive just gotten use to the world being a shade darker and dont give it a second thought. I have never intentionally gone out of my way to wear sunglasses to play poker.
