AC Newbie Question

Posted Thu May 05, 2005 2:13 am GMT by Darkcure
Hey guys, I've got a bit of a question. (Actually a few)

Me and my room-mate have decided that Atlantic City sounds like a quite a bit of entertainment. It's about a 4 hour drive from what I understand. We're planning on heading up sometime in mid May (probably about the 15th or so). We both play (and have done very well) in several home games, with buyins that are around 50.

However, neither of us are familiar with the area. We've done a bit of research, it seems like the Borgata and the Tropicana seem to be the spots to hit up for smaller tournaments (50 buy in and such), and 1/2 2/4 tables. My question is this: How easy is it to get around from one place to another? Are the casinos within rather manageable walking distance? (Also, relative saftey? I am from DC, but I don't know if it's any worse than that).

Also, we really don't have plans set in stone about where we are staying. As far as the Hotels go in the area, cheaper would be better, but close is also good. Should I be trying to get a room for a night in advance? Is parking any kind of issue?

For two days and one night, any suggestions on how much to bring?

Thanks a ton, sorry if this is all very newbie-ish. Any input would be greatly apperciated!

-dc

The casino's are not within walking distance, however, you can easily drive to them. Use Valet, It's only $4 and you only have to pay once a day for all casino's.

The casino's that have poker are:

The Taj
Sands
Bally's
Harrah's
Borgata
Tropicana

I like Harrah's. I've had a lot of succes there and the rooms are gorgeous and cheap. The weekend you are going, my friday night room is $79, Saturday is $139 and Sunday is Free. They also have great tourney's that weekend.

Send me a PM if you have any other questions.

See ya at the Final table!!

:D

It's one of the things I just love about this place that we can put out questions about an area that we'd like to visit and get solid info from those who know about where and what to play.

You guys are great!

I would say that walking around AC isn't as bad as DC, as long as you are walking down Atlantic (the road most of the casinos are on). Atlantic City is not the safest of places though.

Some casinos are kind of close, but you would need to drive from certain ones. There are also Jitney buses (little shuttle vans) that go all over AC, and the last time I was on one it only cost a buck. Pretty convenient.

Actually, it turns out two of our friends that go regularly are going to be coming with us, so it should hopefully work out okay. Hopefully we can find a room!

Thanks for all your help, I might be making a report on it depending on how bad/good it goes.
