Hi. I have been reading these forums for awhile but this is my first post. I just played a hand and I was hoping you could give me your opinion on how I played it.... maybe help me with the logic of my decisions.
Here's the hand:
$5 NL holdem tournament @ UB
Blinds: 50-100
I have around 3500.
Dude has around 2000.
Dude in MP raises to 250. I call with 5 5 on the button. Everyone else folds.
Flop:
3 5 6
Bam... he bets pot QUICK. Obviously I am worried about the flush. But my thinking is that if he had the nut flush, he wouldn't be so quick to push me out of the pot. Also, if he had the non-nut flush, I though he would want to test the waters before committing chips. I am guessing he has a couple of over cards. Maybe one , possibly even the ace. Or maybe a big pair is more likely here.
Anyway, I decide to make a stand and raise him all in. He calls and I figure I am beat. He shows K A and my set held up. I wouldn't have called with that hand, but anyway...
Just because I was right this time doesn't mean I played it correctly. In fact I have doubts that I did. I guess I am wondering if my logic was off... I try to think "what would I do in his position with the hand he is representing?". But sometimes you are up against very weak players and this just doesn't work. I'm sure he could have very well had the flush. Maybe I was the one playing poorly.
Thanks in advance for your opinions. I am no expert player and am just trying to learn the game as best I can. I look forward to your comments.
Thanks!

Only thing you had to fear was a flush, which he was unlikely to have for two reasons: 1. he likely would have tried to slowplay, and 2. he quick-bet, which online is often a sign of weakness. Since he raised preflop, he's more likely to have high cards, so your chance of the set holding up heads-up is huge. And even if he has a flush draw, he'll make it only about 33% of the time, AND you still have the chance at a full house. Heads up, you have a monster hand, and you played it well.
He didn't play the gap concept correctly. I don't see any way he can call an all-in there, considering the flop.

You're only 2:1 even if you're wrong. Especially in a tourney, I think all in is the right play every time.
Good play.

Thank you both for the comments. At the time, I was pretty sure it was the right move... but after looking back I wasn't so sure. It's nice to hear other people's opinions on the matter.
Thanks again.

I like the hand post flop. It's very likely that he has either A or K is one card away from a very good hand. It's very unlikely that he actually hit a flush already.
I'd ditch this preflop. You're on an 8:1 draw and you'll be getting paid just a hair better than 8:1 at best. Your implied odds are not good enough to call this preflop raise.

It is only my opinion.
What suitedaces84 says about the implied odds is certainly correct, but I still think it is an OK call (if a little marginal).
I've just run some numbers, and I am reckoning you are getting about 35% of the pot equity here (guessing that he raises with good pocket pairs, playable high cards etc). While this is still not enough to justify the call in itself, you've got position on this guy and there are plenty of flops which he is not going to like the look of.
Although I wouldn't make the play in a cash game (i am too scared of cash games, so I couldn't make the play anyway), i think in a tourney the play is different in that the eV chip payout doesn't correspond 1:1 with the prize structure and therefore the call is acceptable.
As for the all-in, i echo what's been said. I'm calling that bet everytime.
