trip report

Just quick on the non-poker things:

Mesa Verde NP very interesting. Grand Canyon awesome, but bad weather. Death Valley nice and warm. Utah great scenery in its various parks.

Only a couple of days in Vegas.

Excalibur. Terrible poker played by terrible players. Slow, slow, slow on the cocktails. Fun tables, nobody's paying attention, so if you're looking to just kill time it might be o.k.

Example: a guy who was trying to convince us that Kurt Warner was going to turn the Arizona Cardinals into contenders raises pre-flop with 87o. I flop the nut flush, bet the hell out of it, he stays with me because he's got a 7. Turn 7, river 8 for the FH. Arrrrggggh!

I happened to be staying there, so I went down when I got in. Was too tired from the road to play well, so that combined with the ragged play made for a bad combination. Should've went to see Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy instead.

Wynn Las Vegas. Only was able to play a couple of hours, but it's a really nice place. Comfortable chairs, good service. Won just a few bucks.

I didn't get in line, but they have Ferrari and Lamborghini dealers in the place (I think, some great cars anyway). Seemed like another high-end Bellagio-type place.

MGM Grand. Nice room, played a few hours mid-afternoon. New room. Won a few bucks.

Mandalay Bay. Came 3rd in a 6 PM tournament (of 30). Should've been at least second; late, got knocked out on an 8-5-4 rainbow flop when the guy with J4 called my K5 all-in post-flop and hit a J on the river. Next hand, I had to go all-in on the blind and didn't make it.

Other than that, only really notable hand was me getting really lucky with A6 suited up against A10 off post-flop, with an AQ on the board. Turn A, river Q for full house split.

Anyway, turned $60 into $225 to make up for the disaster at Excalibur and finish with a small profit.
