Anybody have a fear of moving up your limits?

I kinda do...lol I want to play 3-6 so kinda get away from all the crappy players at the 1-3 tables. Problem is i feel like it will be the same game just faster to loose my money, Is this true or should i just say f-it and go to 3-6.

I dont think my play will be bad just think my money will go faster i play pretty tight, See maybe 10-15% of flops. But then i switch to agressive when im playing. So im tight and agressive which on the 1-3 tables is nothing....lol About how much should you buy in for at a 3-6 table 150?
50x the small blind....
Thanks aaron,

When moving up in limits, assuming that you are a solid player and the SOP should be better at higher limits, the only other difference in playing higher limits is to make sure that your bankroll can handle the bigger swings. If you think you are ready the only way to find out is to go ahead and move up. Set yourself a 'loss' limit and if you get to that number then move back down to build your bankroll again..

But with that being said, if you are afraid to lose money then you should not be playing poker. Smile

Im not afraid to loose Money, Im afraid to loose money to people who call the the river every single hand with jack dingle....lol If im going to be beat ill stick at the 1-3 and save a grand for the 10-20....lol

Edit: Should prob just watch the table to find out how each of the players play to judge how i will approach the game. If its all out crazy ill go to 1-3 and work on picking up tells. If its tight ill work on taking them to school...lol I know theres maniacs at all levels..... O and i dont think theres ever been a time where i planned comming out a winner at a casino...lol Sometimes it just works out that way..

Anyone not afraid of moving up is probably lying (either to you or himself). You need a bigger bankroll...a strong, aggressive, confident game...and--most importantly--the emotional grip to watch your swings double or triple. That's the gutcheck time. You have to get up...walk around and ask yourself honestly if you really are playing well enough to be there and just catching the wrong cards that night. If people are making mistakes but still beating you...well that's fine...unless you can't afford to stick around 'til their luck runs out.

The biggest mistake players make moving up...and I've done it and seen it...is to play too timidly. If you can't go up and play tough, aggressive poker you are not ready.

By the way...check out Jones's book on winning at low limit (what he calls no fold'em) hold'em. It helps beat those low limit games.

Interesting question, I've kind of been wondering the same things.

I believe myself to be an above-average player; not great, but good. Sometimes, I'll go in there and just pound the low-limit (1 to 3, 2-4 sort of things) tables, if people are playing reasonably.

But, if it's a calling fest, I have more trouble, naturally. What are the experiences of others at higher-limit tables in Vegas?

Does the play really improve (or maybe the way to ask is does it get more sensible) as limits go up, or are you just up against wild caller who happen to have a better income?

I have been playing some 5/10 and 10/20 online lately (up from the normal 3/6). Maybe it was just the tables I was at, but I found that it was much easier to buy pots at the higher stakes. On 3/6, you cant bluff people off a 3rd pair at partypoker. On 10/20 a check raise when a 3rd suited card falls will win you lots of pots.

Next time you have a solid night at your lower stakes, step up and give it a try.

sometimes its not uncommon for the 1-3 table to be tighter then normal, 4-5 see the flop. Compared to 8-9 lol depends realy on the time you go. The problem i have is when i start winning i think i loosen up my game, I dont try to and im not completly sure if i realy do, But for some reason when im at the 1-3 i can get up to 150-175 within a few hours but a few hours later its lower then my $50 buy in....lol Im goign to scope them out,

Here's the key thing (and it's covered very well in Jones's book). As you go up, the players as, a general rule, are making a lot fewer mistakes. That creates a lot fewer opportunities and cuts your edge substantially. There are, in fact, a lot of tables you just can't play at and win. It may not be that anyone's beating you...it might just be that nobody's beating anyone. So you move the money around and slowly but surely the house ends up with all of it.
