My pointless story from last night |

Last night I was playing at the Grand in Gulfport, having a pretty decent night. First hand was pocket 8's and got my set on the flop. Nice. A few hands later got JJ and won with those (I actually got JJ 4 or 5 times and only lost once, too bad I didn't get any aces since it was "aces cracked" night) .
Anyway after a few hours and a few drinks I am about even and ask my buddy if he is ready to go, but he needs a few more minutes. Right then, we get these two maniacs that sit down fresh off the craps table with over a grand in chips each. My eyes started getting a little brighter as dreams of colored chips getting shoved my way took over my thoughts. These guys were the most maniacal I have seen at the 1-4, 8, 8 tables to date. I knew it would just be a matter of time before I could take a huge pot or two and call it a night. There wasn't a small pot after these guys were seated. Right on time, my cards went dryer than Albequerque in June and I only saw two or three flops over the next hour and a half with nothing better than third pair. The maniacs ran most everybody off the table and it was getting a little late so our table broke up and I decided to go play at the table my buddy was having luck with. I was down to about half my original buy in.
First cards were K To, the best hand I had in almost 2 hours so I play, flop a straight draw and don't improve and lose to a pair of ladies. Oh well, next hand Ah Th. Another nice hand, i bet out small and get two callers. A pair of fours and two hearts on the flop. I bet, get one caller. Turn blank, check. River 3h, makes my flush and makes second pair on the board. I'm thinking hes not calling me down with a 3 or a 4 so I bet, he calls and turns over Q3 offsuit. Ouch.
Next hand, super short stacked, way past my bedtime and I get AJo, three decent hands in a row, i once again bet small pre-flop to narrow the field. Its just me and the guy who beat me the last two hands. I put my few remaining chips in on the all rag flop and don't improve my hand on the turn or river, guy next to me turns over pocket tens.
Moral of the story: sometimes its better not to get a decent starting hand.
Reason I posted this story even though it has no point: I'm pretty bored.
Finally a question, does anybody find it easier to get away from marginal hands online than it is in a casino? For some reason instinct will let me hit the fold button a whole lot quicker than it will let me toss my cards to the dealer.

It's not instinct. It's pride. In a live game, you want to project a better image subconsciously. It's not your fault--Poker is a macho game, and everyone's ego takes over at one point or another.
