Am I a maniac?

2/4 at UB. Its a pretty tight/aggressive game, only 2, 3, 4 players to a flop not a whole lot of crappy hands being played.

I am BB with 8c 6s

Folds to button who calls, sb calls i check.

Flop:
Ad 5s 7h

SB checks, I check, button bets. Somehow I don't believe him, this is the type of game where I thought if it was passed to you on the button, it was almost an automatic raise with an Ace in your hand. SB folds and I check-raise trying to represent the Ace, and if he does have a weak ace, I have an open-ended straight draw for a bunch of outs. He calls.

Turn:
8d

Not exactly what I wanted but I can now at least beat a bluff. I lead out, hoping for a fold, he calls. Now I know he has an Ace.

River:
4s

Completes my straight so I bet out again, he calls and shows A 8 for top-two pair. Then he complains how this game is worse than the Reno 2/4 live blah blah blah.

Things I think he did wrong:
1) Doesn't raise pre-flop
2) Doesn't re-raise on the flop with the ace to at least see if I cap.
3) Doesn't raise on the turn with top-two.
4) Pays off on the river with 4 5 7 8 showing and already I could've had a set the way I check-raised him.

Am I a maniac? Was I too aggressive on this hand?

Um... yeah... anyone who gets pissed at the Big Bling for winning a pot they might not otherwise have has no right to complain if they did not raise preflop. Why the hell would he not raise with an Ace on the button if everyone else folded? He's a moron; you're no maniac... just a guy who played a draw correctly.

1) Okay
2) And if you cap is he supposed to fold? The most efficient way for him to find out what you have is to call you down at this point.
3) You easily could have a set, and a bad raise will cost twice as much as a good raise will gain.
4) Should he really fold top two pair when he's getting 6:1 on his call? How is he supposed to put you on a straight after the way you played the hand?

I don't actually know how to quote: but in response to suitedaces

1) ok
2) if he 3-bets on the flop he can see where my hand really stands. My check-raise could be a standard re-steal from an obvious stealing position (which it sorta was). If he 3-bets, he can see whether I decide to cap or simply call, which might give him an indication of what he is up against. It costs 1 small bet to 3 bet and a 4th to call if I cap, so he pays 1 big bet max on the flop. Now, if I lead out on the turn and he doesn't hit his kicker, I would think about folding in this situation, with someone who has shown a lot of strength from the BB on a relatively uncoordinated board. I mean, at that point (without top-two) the only hands he can beat (that someone might cap on the flop) are: A2, A3, A4, A6 or be losing to a set or two-pair.

I see some merit in calling down, but I also think in his situation, I might 3-bet the flop and see his actions to determine the strength of my hand. If he 3-bet I simply call and probably check to him on the turn. I'll have to think about it some more.

3) ok maybe a raise on the turn with top-two is a bad idea after a check-raise on the turn. I think you are probably right here.

4) 6:1 on a call, but suited, what hands does he still have beat at this point. Even AK or AQ would probably check on this this river hoping for a free showdown. So, what hands can he beat? 5 7, A5, A7...a complete bluff...? Can you think of any more hands (note: If it sounds sarcastic I'm sorry it isn't, but realistically what other hands do you see A 8 winning against?)

I don't know if he would win this pot 1 in 6 times after I still bet into him with that board.

All 3-betting the flop does is build the pot making it more difficult to fold. If you cap he'll be getting 5:1 or better on every call, then he's stuck and it cost him an extra big bet. Top-pair heads up is a very strong hand.

If you were in his spot would a bet on the river really make you 85% sure you were beat? He still has A-anything beat or any lower two pair.
