Yes, once again I am on about the most demonic hand in texas hold em poker....J J!!!!
After suffering yet another horrendous loss while attempting to win with the "Devils hand", I have decided to put up this poll.
Do u believe JJ is truley the 4th or 5th best hand in the game? Do u hate this hand? Do u like this hand? Or do u believe it really is the hand of the Devil?
Vote now.

I never have problems with JJ. Perhaps I play it too passively at times, but it keeps me out of trouble as well.

Me neither, I was playing at the casino the other night and won with JJ a few times and people kept oooohing and aaahhhing that they held up. That befuddled me.

JJ is a great hand. But the trick to playing it is that you have to know when to give it up.

JJ is a good hand, but like all pocket pairs, it is only a PAIR. It gets beat by a lot of hands, and most of the trouble I see people have with it is attachment. They like having a strong starting hand, but won't release it even when it's obvious they are beat.
The best thing about JJ is that when you flop a set, it can still be quite deceptive, since an overcard will often give an opponent the second best hand. However, there are lots of flops that will be betray JJ, so you must proceed with discretion.

I actually like J's..J's won me my single biggest pot...over $300..Of course that third J to make a set helped..

Bet it like you had AA. When you see noone is believing it then play it like a pair of xs.

Jacks are definitely one of much discussion. As far as my story with Jacks... maybe around October, I made it to the final table with Jacks... twice I got them, and I had called an all in bet with two people, shorter stacked than me with them. Needless to say, they won... giving me enough chips to make the final table. In that tournament, I had made it down to the four, then we cut a deal... I made $1300 at that tourney. In November, believing I was an excellent player, I bought in at a $300 tourney at Hollywood Park. 300 players. I get Jacks on the first round, and I'm on the button with them. I raise in the back with a three limpers in front of me, and under the gun reraises me. I move all in. Everyone else folds. He calls... yeah he had aces. I was the first person out of that tourney!
I've read about the hand in Cloutier's books. To now, you have to play them correctly. Either raise or just limp in with them... this has to do with your position, the players you're playing with, and how they're playing because of the blind structure, and their stack sizes in relation to the blind structure.

I remember me and a poker-interested friend tried to find a new tag for pocket jacks. We ended up with
"hump 'em and dump 'em"
or for those that which to be less rude
"bump 'em and dump 'em"
The name ofcourse, comes from a reflection of how play often turns out with jacks.

why does everybody assume a third J cant come on the flop?
man.....
it IS a possibily and u will reap havoc on somebody's stack when it happens..
Just fold that mother when overcards appear!

Last time I had them (in a mtt) a third jack DID come on the flop. It didn't, however, prevent me from losing nearly 8000 chips!!!

JJ is 7th best hand for me. Their winning percentages are 56% and I make with them 1, 25 big bet average.
