Turning Stone - is this a rip off?

I went to Turning Stone yesterday for the weekly $40 + 10 double shoot out NL tourney.

First of all, 25% rake on a tourney is insane, but I knew that coming in, so I lived with it. But this week, they have added something new...

When you buy into the tourney, they now ask if you "would like 300 more in chips for 5 dollars?". What the hell is this?

Ok, I know, it is essentially like an "add-on", but before the tourney starts. If that was what it was, I could live with that, but here's the kicker...

The $5 does not go into the prize pool. They state that right up front. And, of course, if 95% of the players are going for this, the other 5% start at a disadvantage.

Has anyone seen something like this at other casinos?

I believe that is a dealers bonus. The money goes to the dealers and tourney staff.
