Double Flop Hold-Em, anyone?

Dania Jai Alai, one of the local parimutuel card rooms (state-mandated $2 betting limits), just started offering this game.

It's $2/$2 Texas Hold-Em with this twist: the dealer puts two flops on the board, then two turn cards (one alongside each flop), then one river card, which can be used with either line on the board.

And you're essentially playing two hands. You are betting on either the top row or the bottom row. Winner of the top row splits the pot with the winner of the bottom row (you take the whole pot if you win both).

Anyone seen this before? I played it for a couple of hours Saturday and then for a couple of hours again Sunday, total profit of around $80 (10xBB/hour) -- and that was even after I lost a couple of gigantic pots along the way and threw some money away chasing a flush or a straight here and there.

Seemed like an ATM machine. Most people betting/calling/raising anything to the river. I would would see a flop with pretty much all PPs, any suited connector, any two face cards, A9s -- and dump if neither of the flops hit me or drop the marginal ones to more than two preflop bets. I seemed to be the only one folding cards before the river, certainly preflop.

I'll try it again in the next day or two, only play a little tighter and start playing position more. Those first two sessions I was mostly experimenting (a quite profitable experiment, to say the least).

I had never seen nor heard of this game before. Was wondering if it's something that's out there or just an invention of this particular card room as a way to attract the maniac gamblers.

First I've heard of that spin on Hold'em. It might be fun for a home side game though.

Ha ha. That's really what it feels like. They should make deuces wild.

I'll have to check it out next time I'm down there.

Do you ever play the multi-table tournaments they have?

No, don't touch 'em. Vig is ridiculously high, blind escalation is ridiculously fast.
