For limit, try 'Winning Low Limit Holdem' by Lee Jones, it's a great place to start.

Grab Super System I and II also if you are feeling particularly ambitious.

Small Stakes Hold'em and Hold'em Poker for Advanced Players by Sklansky, Malmuth, and Miller.

I don't recommend Holdem for Advanced Players by Sklansky if you're playing lower limits. Alot of those moves just don't work on people too ignorant to know what you're doing. Winning Low Limit Holdem by Lee Jones is an awesome book to start with and I highly recommend it.

Is fifth street good? I almost bought that the other day.

Positively Fifth Street is quite entertaining. It is not, however, instructional, which is what the original poster was looking for.

I'd recommend it strongly. Very interesting.

I know this is a long shot, but is there anybody who has Super System 2 and has not read the original?

If so PM me, please.

Quoted for truth. These are limit books though...and AoS has a good point about HPFAP. But there is still a lot of good content for the low limit tables such as the section on Short-Handed play.

When I first started playing I was all over the place. I picked up "No-Limit Texas Hold'em: The New Player's Guide to Winning Poker's Biggest Game" by Tom McEvoy and Brad Daugherty. I saw immediate results. It seems to preach a pretty tight playing style, which I think is good for a beginner. Until you really get a feel for the game, playing loose can be dangerous IMO.

You got a lotta nerve
To say you are my friend
When I was down
You just stood there grinning

You got a lotta nerve
To say you gota helping hand to lend
You just want to be on
The side that's winning

You say I let you down
You know it's not like that
If you're so hurt
Why then don't you show it

You say you lost your faith
But that's not where it's at
You had no faith to lose
And you know it

I know the reason
That you talk behind my back
I used to be among the crowd
You're in with

Do you take me for such a fool
To think I'd make contact
With the one who tries to hide
What he don't know to begin with

You see me on the street
You always act surprised
You say, "How are you?" "Good luck"
But you don't mean it

When you know as well as me
You'd rather see me paralyzed
Why don't you just come out once
And scream it

No, I do not feel that good
When I see the heartbreaks you embrace
If I was a master thief
Perhaps I'd rob them

And now I know you're dissatisfied
With your position and your place
Don't you understand
It's not my problem

I wish that for just one time
You could stand inside my shoes
And just for that one moment
I could be you

Yes, I wish that for just one time
You could stand inside my shoes
You'd know what a drag it is
To see you

oops... one block over. Laughing

I just picked this up over the weekend, after playing low limit for a couple years now, and already have found a tip or two which will make it well-worth the $24.95 cover price. The Advanced Hold'em by Sklansky was the first book I read and I found it to be quite impressive.

On a total sidenote (not trying to hijack this thread, I've finally started my own poker account which the girlfriend cannot touch. I gave her $100 for Bingo and deposited my $100 in Pokerstars. Up to $180 after a couple hours last night, I find that the $5 and $10 NL 2 and 3 table SnGs seemed pretty soft ...
