Does three pairs with an ace high bet a full house? Can someone please help me?
Did you know that participating in a poker forum can help you improve your own game? Be it by sharing experiences or simply asking for help, participation in a forum helps you focus and keep 'on topic' which will help you improve your game. You can learn from other players feedback and from their experiences. Why the THP poker forums? We offer one of the best managed texas holdem poker forums available, and the community within is far more friendly than those typicaly found on other sites. We've made a 'lurkers edition' of the poker forum available here on Holdem Poker Online, but we encourage all visitors to register and join in on the conversations on TexasHoldem-Poker.com

But three-pairs with an Ace high will beat three-pairs with a K high.

^^^^^^^^are you joking????
would 3 pair not mean 6 cards????????

Yes 3 times 2 = 6. And yes, 3 pair does not exist. However, there are people out there that think sr8s beat flushes. They come here to ask whats right and we should tell them with as little flaming as possible. Although some is warranted, after 2 or 3 it becomes excessive.
And then promptly invite them to your game.

I never knew I would get so much hate after only asking one question. And by the way this was my first time on here, and I have only been playing poker for maybe 2 weeks, so you guys should lay off the criticism.

Apologies, though in defence of the crotchety old gits above, we often get people here asking questions trying to provoke a reaction.
I wrote a useful FAQ for beginner's which you can find here:
http://www.texasholdem-poker.com/forum/t3459/poker-faq--please-read-before-starting-a-new-thread
The rest of the site is quite handy for strategy info, just navigate it by using the menu on the left.

Yeah, it is always the best 5 of 7 in holdem. No exceptions.

Much better experience this time. Thanks for the beginner guide. I am printing it out now.

A Straight does beat a flush in 3 card brag.... not that that is terribly relevant in Hold-Em!

Ok, heres the deal. I was playing holdem and this hand came out.
I had ace and 4, the other 2 players both had ace + 10. In the flop there was an ace, a 4, and two 8's, and one 6. There where no straights, and nno flushes. I had two pair (the ace and the 4). They had one pair (aces). Then they say, oh we get the pair 8 so that now they wind up splittin the pot and i lose (we had all gone all in). Maybe someone with a little more xperience could tell me if that 8 counts.
thnx

You = A4
Player A = A10
Player B = A10
Board A4886
Is this correct?
They win with
AA8810
You lose with
AA886
Your 4 doesn't even play. Hope this helps.

your hand would be A A 8 8 6
theirs would be A A 8 8 10
the result (you losing and them splitting the pot) was correct, but their explanation was wrong as you can play the board pair (8's) as well. you lose because their kicker (10) beats yours (6).

I’ve seen so many of these threads I developed this:
http://www.whosehandwon.com/
It’ll answer the question of who won but since it’s such a critical ability I’d advise learning how to do it from the tutorial thread already posted.

That should probably be linked in a prevalent place on the forum.
Justin
PS 100 bucks says it won't end the WHO WINS threads however.

Thanks I didn’t want to look like a pimp so I didn’t start a new thread with it
It wasn’t much hassle to create since I already had all the poker logic from my dissertation, it just needed to be migrated from java to php and a front end slapped on.
PS. What odds are you offering Justin, I'd want a 1000 to 1 (never underestimate people trying to play 3 pair) :D
