Worst beat of my life

Posted Sat May 28, 2005 1:10 pm GMT by conolly
Well right now I am going through a string of bad luck, this beat was obviously no different. The reason it was the worst beat of my life is because it was the first hand on a tourney that I think I could have won.

I am dealt A 10 to the right of the dealer. The player left to the BB raises to triple the big blind, 4 callers including me. (8 people playing per table.)

The flop: KQJ

Check, Player who raised preflop goes all in, folded to me. I have the nut straight ace high so I call which puts me all in too.

The guy flips over pocket jacks, he has trips vs my straight. The river is a queen, he hits his full house and I lose on the first hand.

This is hardly a bad beat. You were only a 2:1 favorite when all the chips were in. There are only fours hands that beat him at on the flop, why shouldn't he bet it hard?

It's a bad beat when its the first hand of the game and you've went through weeks of river beats etc.

Tell me you wouldn't be upset if this happened to you, could you walk away from the nut straight on the flop?

I'd be mildly irritated. And of course I wouldn't fold the nuts either.

Like he said, it's not really a bad beat. Neither of you should have folded, and he just happened to win a marginally worse hand. =/

It sucks, but you'll see much worse.

I definatly have seen much worse, just not on the first hand.

My worst beat is pocket kings, hit a full house (k 10 10) on the flop. Other player with pocket aces hits a full house (aces over 10s) on the turn.

This was in real life, like all my bad beats.

bah this happened to me twice last night. I had AK both times and hit the nut straight, and both times the opponant had Q-10 and the board paired a Q to give them the FH to beat my nut straight. We were all in on the flop btw.

this happens all the time. I used to get frustrated, but now I just reload and wait for the next hand. losses are part of the game.

sucks though, i feel ya on that one. but there's no way you were going to fold the nut straight now was there?

so look at it that way, you weren't getting away from it, and you had the best hand when the money went in. In the long run it will pay off.
