poker in Montreal?

Hi all,

Been a really long time, but that's another story... hope everyone is doing well.

I'm finding myself in Montreal the week of June 6 and was wondering if there is anyone here familiar with poker rooms in that area. I've found a listing of 3 different casinos, but only one appears to have poker and only 5 tables at that...

Thanks for any input.
Brian

No Poker at any Loto-Quebec run Casino, which covers the one in Montreal (and the others in Hull and Charlevoix two and three hours away).

There are private rooms, but one got busted last week, so that's not a great option...

Where did you find the listing for a Casino with poker? Akwesasne Mohawk Casino does have poker, but it's about 1:15 to 1:30 away... and over the border to boot.

Thanks for the reply, Montrealer... the link I found was: http://www.casinosca.ca/CasinosCanada.htm

So an hour and 15 away isn't so bad... I'll be there over Friday nite and was thinking about going then. Is that the best option or is it worth the trip?

Hi Brian,

Aha, I see the "poker tables" comment in the reviews for the Lac-Leamy Casino (in Gatineau, across the river from Ottawa in the former city of Hull)... I double-checked the official website and they're talking about those Casino-edge games like Grand Prix, Caribbean Stud, Three Card, etc...

From what I've read in the past day, Loto-Quebec is trying to get the law changed here in Quebec (apparently it's still illegal for patrons of legal gambling establishments to play against each other - only allowed to play the house) - they want to introduce poker in the next year.

Back to your question, I've never been to Akwasasne, so I can't say... that being said, I've heard that as long as you're not expecting Vegas, it's all right - and it's the only poker action within five hours of Montreal...

Here's a review I dug up... http://www.pokerfuture.com/sub_pages/poker_stories/akwesasne_trip.htm

Thanks much for the review link... so since I'm fairly new to travel to/from Canada... how difficult is the drive across the border and back? I mean if that's going to add another hour each way Shocked I'll probably forego the trip...

Actually, it's not hard at all to cross the border, especially if you have your papers in order... but true that the round-trip travel time will probably be around three hours total if you don't speed too much... so I dunno if it's really worthwhile.

Maybe someone here has experience with Akwesasne and could tell you whether it's worth it? There's a list of tournaments in June here: http://mohawkcasino.com/index.php?L=POKER - Friday 6PM w/ rebuys, Saturday 12PM freezeout...

According to that information I'd probably be better trying to hit the cash games since the tourney starts at 6..not sure I could get there in time for that.

Thanks again for the info!
