Assuming 6 or more players at a NL SnG...

Is it better to limp in and try and flop your set, or bet and hope to eliminate players?

I'm pretty sure you're going to hear a 50/50 on that. I'd say limp

Always limp and hit or fold when there are many others in the hand.

limp in late position when the blinds get high and you have a few callers

you need to be making 9 to 1 on your money when you do hit your set on the flop

in SnGs this is less effective cause you can never recover those chips, but in cash games you will almost always make a lot of money on your sets

To be honest, I am fairly aggressive preflop. I will usually throw a 4 or 5xBB bet out there in EP to chase out some of the crappier hands. If I only get one or two callers I will immediately do the same post flop. More ofter than not I will take the pot right then even if I completely miss the flop. (If an ace of king hits, they will usually assume you just hit top pair.)

If I am in late position with a lot of callers in front of me, I will just "limp-in" and hope to hit the flop. If I'm in late position with a just one or no callers in front of me, I will raise like above.

Preflop, in EP, it depends how I'm feeling and how my stack compares. If I'm in late, and only have people who have limped, I go with the way Soup plays it. If one or two stick, you'll generally have to bet strong to take down the pot when your set doesn't hit, cause frankly, it probably won't ...

For SnG, this TOTALLY depends on 1) what level are the blinds at; 2) what's your seat position; 3) any limpers; 4) do the players on the blinds defend them; 5) size of my own stack.

If its early in the tourney, just limp in cheaply to see if you can flop a set. There's nothing in the pot to fight over. If its later in the tourney and the blinds pretty big, I will FOLD in early position and raise (at least 3xbb) in late position IF there are no limpers and the people on the blinds don't defend.

There's no point in limping in with those small pp if the blinds are big. Most of the time, you're gonna have to fold. By raising, you take the aggression and 1) steal the blinds or 2) can represent a big hand even if you miss the flop.

If I'm short stacked, I would fold or move all in.
