$3/$6 Hold'em. Middle Position I'm dealt AK, and I raise, hoping to knock out a good portion of the field. To my shock, I get 8 callers! Flop comes down:
9 5 2
Nothing. Zip. Nada. Someone obviously must have hit at least a pair with this board, but I still have a pretty good hand. It's checked to me, and I decide to bet for information. Is this an appropriate play? Since I raised pre-flop, people weren't likely to put me on something that hit on this board, except maybe 99, so if they believed I had an overpair, I mkight significantly thin the field here. 5 callers. More than I would have liked, but at least I got a few out.
Turn:
K
Bingo. Here's my money card. I didn't want to hit the Ace and pay off A9, so I'm looking pretty good now, unless someone has 2 pair (which does have me worried). I bet again. 3 callers. Now we're getting somewhere.
River:
6
Nothing here. I bet again. One caller. I show, and he mucks. Nice pot for just TPTK. I don't really see how I could have played this differently, with the exception of maybe checking the flop. However, I feel like I'm giving away a free card and too much information with that play in a limit game, and since no one raised, I doubted I was up against more than a pair of 9's at the very best. What do you guys think?

I would have played it the same...and would have hated the hand just as much as you did Tough spot, nothing much more you can do.

Yeah bet the flop, if it blanks on the turn with 5 callers I think you have to check. When you hit that turn card keep betting until someone raises you.

When you get a horrible flop like that all you can do is bet and keep betting. The only trap you might have run into was a set. You would have known if someone made a set because few players are patient enough to wait for the big bets to raise. You played the hand well.

I completely agree with how it was played and discussed. If the turn is a blank, check. By giving a free card on the flop, you open yourself to backdoor str8s and flushes, who may have folded on the flop to a bet.
