Hey guys, i was curious. Do you guys know of any retail stores that sell decent chips/cards? I could buy some online, but I am just curious if you guys have a local "Poker shop" ?
Did you know that participating in a poker forum can help you improve your own game? Be it by sharing experiences or simply asking for help, participation in a forum helps you focus and keep 'on topic' which will help you improve your game. You can learn from other players feedback and from their experiences. Why the THP poker forums? We offer one of the best managed texas holdem poker forums available, and the community within is far more friendly than those typicaly found on other sites. We've made a 'lurkers edition' of the poker forum available here on Holdem Poker Online, but we encourage all visitors to register and join in on the conversations on TexasHoldem-Poker.com

We have a nice shop here in Orlando and they carry a wide range of 11.5g and NexGen chips but... their prices are orders of magnitude higher than any of the eBay or PokerChipShopping.com prices. They don't carry any of the higher end chips such as Paulsons. Haven't looked at cards.
Not sure what you meant by 'decent'. I ended up buying a LOT of sample chips through PokerChipShopping.com (same folks as 5StarDeal, a big eBay seller) before deciding on my final set.
Just saw a 500 chip set of what appear to be 11.5g 'dice' chips in Wal Mart last night for $38.95. They were very, very clever and have a sample chip with a hole drilled through it attached to the handle of the case so you can see what it is you are getting. Considering that there are no shipping charges this is a good price if that's the kind of chip you are looking for.
I'm retired military and get the Bee Club Special cards at the Post Exchange for $1.85/deck. I LOVE these cards and at this price you can just toss them when they get worn. I pick up two decks every time I go in and have enough to last through a nuclear winter or the next hurricane. Again, Wal Mart has them at about $2.35/deck and Bicycles for less.
It will be interesting to see what folks in the really big cities have to say. I have never seen retail over the counter chip sales at prices that weren't at least double what the same chip can be found for online, even factoring in shipping.

Larry,
Thanks a lot for your input! Yeah thats great that you mention Orlando, I live in Lakeland I am not entirely sure what types of chips to get, but I am shopping around. I might just drive over there to check some out this weekend. I saw a 500 Chip Set at Sports Authority as well, around 58 bucks on sale till Sunday. So I might just take up your idea there about buying chip samples from a store, and going from there. Thanks again!
Eric

We have a couple of somewhat established stores that deal somewhat exclusively in poker supplies though both have other businesses. Addtionally there are various mall stores that are selling the lower end clinker chips at Paulson prices, and of course the mega chain stores. And there are also various dealers that sell stuff out of the trunks of their cars that tend to come and go on places like craigslist and ebay. None of the local stores approach places like 5star for pricing, though I know at least one of the stores gets a lot of their stuff from Trademark.

You can get 12 packs of Bicycles for $13.49 at Costco (maybe Sam's too).
6 red/6 blue per pack.
