Doctors... doctors ... help me, my patient is sick...

Prognosis: Patient number 2519 described the following to me. I think he's got an obvious case of accute FOTS (Fear Of The Set). A second opinion may prove helpful in prescribing a course of effective treatment.

Representation : the conditions lately manifested during the early-middle stage of an MTT (low buy in = £5);
The patient was fairly healthy before the hand, having 2nd largest stack on the table = $3400. The two shortest stacks each held approximately $1500. The blinds were 50/100.

Early Presentation of disease: Receiving KJo in the big blind the patient checked his option, with a UTG (short stack 1) and a button (short stack 2) limper. The small blind had folded. The flop showed J96 rainbow and the patient bet a little more than half the pot with his TPGK being called by both limpers. The turn was a 2, putting two spades on the board. The patient bet 4/5ths of the pot at this stage. The early limper called, while the button pushed all in. It is at this point the patient was gripped an uncontrollable bout of FOTS.

Actual Symptoms: The patient was overcome with a confusion he later described as "not knowing where he was at." Physical effects included a rapid heart beat, in voluntary shaking of the mouse. Emotional effects included and an irrational fear of the UTG player and a ever growing anger towards the guy who pushed all-in.

Resolution: The symptoms rapidly diminshed after the patient folded.

Re-lapse: However, I must point out that the patient suffered an almost immediate re-lapse when the button showed Q9s (not spades), and UTG showed QTo. The patient stated that he "felt sick" and noted some "actual physical pain" which seemed to be exacerbated the river was revealed to be a 3. The patient is now convinced that he is suffering a mental impairment which means that everytime he sees a raise on the turn he's up against a set and he's losing a lot of pots because of this.

Can anyone advise a possible course of treatment?

I think you take your shot here. You've got both stacks doubled +. Why not take an oppurtunity to double up here? Losing is going to put you down to $1900 chips which is still enough to keep you going with 50/100 blinds.

I'd take my chance to put them both out and have a nice fat stack of $6400 chips. With that stack your basically assured of being in the money with a good chance of winning.

You lose, your somewhat short-stacked but by no means out of the game.

In MTTs I think you have to take your chances to build a big stack when if you lose, your still left in good condition.
