Hi

I'm a newbie at on-line poker. i have read some artikles about
poker strategies and some time they bring up that you should
notate statistics on the other players.

My question is:

What points are interesting (folds, pot, etc?)

How much will this help me to improve?

If they mean literally write stuff down, I wouldn't bother to be honest unless you have the memory of a goldfish!

Basically, after a few hands you can *often* (not always) get a good feel on who is playing loose, tight etc and you can adjust your play accordingly depending on where you are sitting in relation to them.

For example, in the most recent tourney I entered, the guy to my left did not put in a pre-flop raise all the time I was with him, seemingly regardless of his hand. This may not sound much but if I found myself with a middling hand on the small blind, I was confident that I could top up my bet and he would check, thus allowing me to see the flop at least without paying any more than I had to. One time I hit an outrageous full house on the flop which I rode all the way to the river and claimed a tidy pile of chips so, observing others can really help :D

In terms of what you should note about a player, when there are 10 ppl at a table, it may be hard to keep track so if you are new, you may wish to scribble down for the first 10 hands or so items, like you say, such as pre-flop raises (and then see wot cards they have if they get to show), large raises on the turn/river card, people who fold lots (playing tight, w8ing for a good hand to sting u on!) and other general points like who tends to put bets in automatically (eg have no thinking time) and who plays a steadier game with some consideration.

Basically, the bottom line is to use your common sense and hope you hit the right cards and make the right moves against the right people! I think common sense will help u improve more than hosts of meaningless statistics!
