How many times can you raise per round in NL?

Hi,

We play NL at on weekends. My father-in-law keeps thinking we're ripping him off. He says we should only be allowed to raise once per round.
I always thought that raising per round could go on for as long as necessary.
Also, he says that once someone has called a raise no more bettors can raise.
I think he is right on the last comment but to keep the action going rather than call should it be a raise then?

Seat 1 posts small blind
Seat 2 posts big blind
Seat 3 may call fold or raise
Seat 4 may call fold or raise that
Seat 5 may call fold or raise that
Seat 6 may call fold or raise that
Seat 7 may call fold or raise that
etc etc back round to
Seat 1 may call fold or raise that
Seat 2 may call fold or raise that

There may be an infinite amount of raises/reraises
If a player raises and no more players reraise after him then the betting round is complete when the last person to act before him has acted.
All players must have either put in the same amount of chips or folded before a betting round is complete.

So, the original raiser has the right re-raise even though he was called? Obviously, if he decides not to re-raise he would just check/call and the next round of play will proceed. Is that right?

If a rasier was re-raise by someone else, he can either call that raise.. or re-re-raise the re-raise. Hope the makes sense.

But if player 1 raises and everyone else either calls or folds... he DOES NOT get the chance to raise again... because as soon as the peron to his right has called or folded, that betting round is over and the next card(s) are dealt.

No. Once everyone has called the original bet, the round is over.
Here are a few examples:
4-handed play is used for the examples to simplify things

Example 1:
Player A raises the big blind.
Player B calls
Player C folds
Player D calls
Player A cannot re-raise his own raise. The round of betting is complete.

Example 2:
Player A calls big blind
Player B raises
Player C re-raises
Player D calls
Player A folds
Player B calls
Since the last raise was Player C, then the betting round is complete when Player B calls the re-raise or folds.

Example 3:
Player A raises big blind
Player B re-raises
Player C re-raises player B
Player D re-raises player C
Player A calls
Player B re-raises player D
Player C re-raises player B
Player D re-raises player C
Player A calls
Player B calls
Player C calls
End of betting round.

There is an infinite number of raises in NL, but once the last raise has been called by each player, the betting round is complete.
