Debating a trip in July. Anyone know anything about Orleans? Rooms sound nice (from their info anyway) and are DIRT CHEAP for poker players. Free shuttle to Barbary Coast on the strip.
Anyone play/stay there?
They have Orleans open or some BS at the end of July w/ $100-300 buy in tourneys every day at noon.
If I drag the wife along, is the pool decent? Is there anything to do there while I am logging time at the poker tables?
Did you know that participating in a poker forum can help you improve your own game? Be it by sharing experiences or simply asking for help, participation in a forum helps you focus and keep 'on topic' which will help you improve your game. You can learn from other players feedback and from their experiences. Why the THP poker forums? We offer one of the best managed texas holdem poker forums available, and the community within is far more friendly than those typicaly found on other sites. We've made a 'lurkers edition' of the poker forum available here on Holdem Poker Online, but we encourage all visitors to register and join in on the conversations on TexasHoldem-Poker.com

A friend of mine went out there about a year ago and they stayed at the Orleans and gambled at Barbary Coast. I'll call him after work and ask him how they were. If you haven't gotten any other feedback I'll post the info.

I stayed at The Orleans for New Year's Eve back in 2002/2003. I was pleasantly surprised by the room. I don't think you can go wrong staying there. Can't comment on the poker room though. I walked through it one afternoon on that trip and there was only one or two tables running. This was before the poker craze of course.
I never used the shuttle though. I just took a cab out to the strip.

It seems so wrong to me to stay and play at places that are not 'the big places'. Then again, it is way less distance for you guys and more of a money making trip than a holiday so I see your point. Nevertheless, please hit the Mirage poker room once or twice and tear it up Dave :D

Orleans only requires about 3 hours/day for a cheap room and I would save about $50-100 a day from Mirage's discounted rate.
I would still play at Mirage/Bellagio/Wynn, but I couldnt care less where I sleep.
I have spent most of my LV trips and Imperial Palace.....and LOVED IT!

Compare the rates to those at the Hilton. You might find it's equally cheap, and the monorail runs to the strip every 10 minutes. It won't be free like the hotel shuttle, but you'll have more flexibility on coming and going, I think.

Getting close, still considering 7/28-7/31. I will likely stay at IP.
I have the green light from the spouse, but I am trying to make $200-300 more this weekend before committing to go.
Will anyone else be out there?

Mike (Gen Sal) lives there, you won't find a nicer guy in Vegas so go look him up! :D
