Is it illegal to use chips at uni?

Posted Wed Jun 29, 2005 11:06 pm GMT by starfishblue
I'm gonna buy my first chip set soon and I really want to play with friends from my uni. We all live far apart and we want to play some games in uni grounds.

Do you think it is legal to do so? I mean we can play cards... perhaps even use ghetto coins just for fun. But can you use chips? Even if it is only for fun and not for money? I'm just asking what it is like in your area. Once uni starts again i'll ask the uni for permission.

Thankyou

I brought my chips while I was in Uni (Aberystwyth) and never had any problems playing in halls.

If you’re going to play somewhere more public like the student union I would ask permission from the manager, or whomever’s in charge first. I doubt they’ll say no, my local was happy to let us play since they knew it would keep us there and drinking (the bar wasn’t busy).

In fact some students tried to start up a poker society in my final year but were refused. I’m not sure if it was because they missed the beginning of term or the gambling aspects. They probably didn’t mind them playing but thought someone might object to the Uni giving them subsides to do so (which all societies with a minimum number of members receive).
