bluffing: follow through on the turn?

one of my biggest problem areas is playing the turn heads up. here are two examples. both are SB vs. BB hands. I am BB, and SB has completed.

Hand #1, blinds 100/200. I have Q7o.

Flop: A,6,3 (don't remember suits). Oppoment checks, I bet the pot, opponent calls.

Turn: don't remember. We both check.

River: 7. opponent bets 600, I call. Opponent shows J5o.

Hand #2 (different game). I have 63o.

Flop is K high. I bet the pot, opponent calls.

Turn: don't remember. I go all-in for a little less than the pot. Opponent calls with the K.

In hand 1, my opponent called because he figured I was bluffing, and that he could take the pot if I showed weakness on the turn. And his plan would have worked if I hadn't caught on the river.

Hand #2, my opponent slow-played top pair, and got me to bluff away my stack.

Seems like I'm screwed either way. If I give up the bluff on the turn, I'm giving my opponent the pot. If I continue with it, I risk going broke. I don't think there is any way to defend against situation #1 without risking going broke, but if anyone has any ideas on how to minimize the risk, without giving the pot away, I'd love to hear them.

I don't mind letting go or taking free cards after one bet with a stone bluff. Take your shot, if you don't take the pot be ready to move on without losing more than you have to. If I'm on a semi-bluff and the turn's a blank or supports what I'm representing often I'll fire again, often with good results.

If he is calling or checking to you, that is obvious weakness and you should exploit it with betting, especially if you believe you have the better hand.

If he calls flop and turn he is either letting you play into him or drawing to a hand, so be aware of pot odds.

If he is calling a "bluff" with J high, he's probably going to lose his chipstack soon enough anyway. Smile Calling a bluff means you need to beat what they actually have too, not just what they're representing.

I would bet the pot again on the turn. I find that badgering a little more gets some great effects, but it does commit you to more hands.

As for risking going broke.. well, that's why we call it poker.

Also on the first hand, I would have to nominate you for slow play candidate of the year calling a big bet with only a pair of sevens with an ace on the board....

sometimes you gotta be really brave in NL HE , i know some people who think that at most fire on flop and turn when bluffing, if the guy is still check/calling what i beleive to be a hand i can push him off of , i will fire an all in on river, some may think taht this is suicide when a guy is calling on flop and turn but if you have enough money or chips etc - you can get him to pass. I recall many instances where they pass strong hands but the continious agression really makes it hard for them to call. Course this takes alot of guts, and its easy to wimp out on river lol.
