Situations in 6 handed FL games.

I originally posted this in the shorthanded games section where it belongs, but it's getting zero action there, so I'll post it here in hopes I might get some discussion going on this.

I never really see anyone talking about the 6 handed games so i thought I'd put a couple questions out there to get some discussion going. These are the games I play the most as I find they're better for clearing bonuses faster and I tend to have a better bb/100.

What I'm wondering is if it's correct to play any ace at these tables. I've noticed alot of people will play any ace, some quite successfully. With only 6 players, it's much less likely that you're gonna be outkicked, and if you do hit your x card you have a better chance of winning as any pair is a better hand here than full table.

Another hand I wonder about is pocket pairs. I've always heard that smaller pockets play better in large pots, but I've often heard people say pp's value go up in shorthanded games, so which is it?

Being that in shorthanded tables, you generally want to be in control of the table, what do you do if there is maniac/LAG at the table, what if there's 2 of them? Do you tighten up and wait for your chance to exploit them? Do you leave and find a weaker table that you can control?

Any answers, discussion, criticism, or further questions are welcomed Smile

I play Short handed NL cash games, $5/10. I play very tight at these tables and pass Ax unless suited - in the case of no raise. If there is a raise it depends on the player in the pot raising.
I play every pocket pair , raising with 7s and up if noyone has opened the pot. Its true that hands increase in value when less players, but I still think that playing Ax is rarely a winning formula simply cos limping is never a good play in NLHE and i dont feel comfortable raising with weak aces unless i have palyed with the table ages and am comfortable post flop.

with FL unless your UTG id raise with most aces, but its gotta depend on the players at the table. usually you can set up bluffs pretty easily, and people will call your flop bet with just two overs, all the time. but i realize you play a tighter style than me, so i'd say raise with any ace with no bet to you on button orCO, but any other time id say A 8 or better when not facing a raise, and when facing a raise id lay down most aces. The thing about 6 max is most typical players will call a raise with any ace, so you have to be carful how you play a flop with an Ace when you raised with a weak one. just play for the best hand, you know how to do that, i can tell from irc

Both answers are right for different reasons. A small pp may win unimproved in a short game, while in a larger game, where it probably won't win unimproved, you may get the odds to go for your set on the flop (about 1 in 8 ).

While it's true that a small pp such as 66 will hold up unimproved alot more in shorthanded play, how comfortable are you in betting or calling with this hand? It's almost guaranteed overcards aer going to fall on the board, and it's tough to bet or call down with a small pair if you're met with any resistance.

That's the great thing about FL ... you limit your risk. Play small pps in a short game like you'd play Ts or Js in a bigger game and see how they do. I know I'm too aggressive but sometimes it works.

With the small PPs try to make sure you can get it heads-up or at most 3-handed. I stay aggressive on the flop and turn unless someone plays back at me. Then on the river, with a lot overcards I get much more passive and generally try to show it down for free. Position is very important with the small PPs so you can try to control some of the betting.
