"Winning Low Limit Holdem", is it just me or....

is anyone else feeling a bit overwhelmed and lost at times?
I thought i was a somewhat decent player with a decent amount of knowledge of the game but after reading about half the book, i am completely lost.

Just seems like there is so much information to take in, like early vs. middle vs. late position play. Pot odds vs. Implied odds. When to check raise, when not to.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to digest this stuff? should i read only the part on pre flop, pratice some, then read the section on small pocket pairs, and pratice some more?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

When i first read this book i was fairly new to the game and knew I knew nothing, so i was a sponge. I read the whole thing in one sitting and then played for about a week.
Then I read it again and was like "Oh yeah! I should be doing this!"
Then I played for another couple weeks and read it again, after the 3rd time the information really solidified itself in my head.

I also recommend printing out the starting hand charts and posting them up somewhere you can easily see until you memorize them. Though I don't usually look at them anymore and am starting to play my hands more on feel, having them there in the beginning was invaluable for me.

Excellent, thanks for the tips Age. I've gone half way through the book at this point but i think i will stop and start over and really digest the information rather than just read it.

Good point about keep a chart as well. thanks.

I'd say the opposite actually: WLLHE is often over-simplified. It's a great book for the "rank beginner" or whatnot, but there's a whole new world you're opening your eyes to Smile

Whatever you do, don't pick up the theory of poker yet Laughing I thought WLLH was a fairly easy read, but I had been playing for a while and had read some other books so, some of it was going over stuff I already understood.

I need to re-read it as soon as a finish theory.

i'd have to disagree... but to each his own. i think WLLHE is the best book for the pokerbook-neophite that there is on the market. especially the new 3rd edition with the addition of the SNG chapters.

i've read the 2nd edition numerous times and just picked up the 3rd edition last night.

great book... worth multiple reads in order to soak it all in.

just remember. limit... and especially low limit (and even moreso in micro-limit) is a much much much different beast than is no-limit or trny play. WLLH can act as a foundation for the other types of hold'em but shouldn't be your only source for them (though no book should be your only source for any type of holdem... LL included).

What literature would you recommend next for someone interested in learning more about NL low stakes hold em ??

Cheers.

hmm.... good question. specific to LLH... i'm honestly not sure. i think lee's book is the difinative book for that game specifically.

as far as more general based books, what level are you looking at? i.e. beginner, intermediate, advanced? and are you interested in more general th info or trny specific?

Hi mate

Just looking for a beginner book on no limit holdem ring games and tournament games. I'm reading Lee Jones's WLLH and its giving me a good base but I hate Limit Holdem and much prefer No Limit holdem.

Thanks for the reply.

Ken Warren Teaches Texas Hold'em, by (you guesed it) Ken Warren is an excellent book for the beginner. It's a general book on Hold'em that relates more to NL than limit. He's got a couple out with similar names... make sure you get this one (if you choose to get it) as it's the most in-depth of them all.
