I was just wondering, since I live nowhere near a casino (closest is Atlantic City, about 5 hours), how often do people go to casinos when they're within driving distance?
Did you know that participating in a poker forum can help you improve your own game? Be it by sharing experiences or simply asking for help, participation in a forum helps you focus and keep 'on topic' which will help you improve your game. You can learn from other players feedback and from their experiences. Why the THP poker forums? We offer one of the best managed texas holdem poker forums available, and the community within is far more friendly than those typicaly found on other sites. We've made a 'lurkers edition' of the poker forum available here on Holdem Poker Online, but we encourage all visitors to register and join in on the conversations on TexasHoldem-Poker.com

That depends on how bad the gambling problem is.

It's not a problem.....it's a hobby like smoking or drinking.

I have a casino 20-30 minutes from my house. I average about once every 2 weeks. I make more per hour online, but enjoy playing the live game much more.

Do you think poker is 'easier' overall online, or do you attribute this to # of hands? I feel I have an easier time in person, but you play a lot slower . . .

I love playing in live games. I think the expierience of sitting there in front of other players and just watching them is great. I enjoy just trying to learn about the other players, which is just something you lose online.
just my thoughts

I dont know. I know that I am more patient w/ individual hands online because of the speed. I also think that people are often more aggressive online because it is easier to click than it is to grab a mountain of chips and through them out there.
The facelessness of online allows stupid players to hide, where in a live game there is nowhere to go.

I think, in general, it is easier to win online because at any given time there are many more newbies. People are much more inclined to open an online account, deposit maybe $50 and see where it goes and there are an endless stream of people doing this. You actually have to make a serious physical effort to get to a casino and play which is a psychological commitment. In addition, there is a barrier for a lot of people to going to a casino - they don't want to be embarrassed for example. Online, none of these impediments to starting out exists and hence there is a constant stream of new players to play against.
As an illustration, I played a lot of $5 and $10 SNGs a few months ago and made extensive notes on players over a 4 - 5 week period. I now mainly play $20 - $50 SNGs and multi table tourneys but occasionally I play a $5 or a $10 (usually when a friend of mine phones and asks if I fancy a game or when I am drunk). It is only 2 - 3 months since I had notes on pretty much everybody that I sat down with but now when I sit down at a $5 I have notes on none of them (I assume that the guys I played a few months ago have either moved up to bigger games or don't play any more). Conversely, I have gone to my nearest casino for tournaments about 4 or 5 times in about the same period and I already know all the faces. I, like the others there, recognise somebody new just like they all clocked me as new when I started. So it seems obvious to me that there is a far smaller turnover of players in live games and hence far fewer newbies to exploit than in an online game.
