i have been playing poker for a while but it shocked me about a rule up until now i wasnt aware of. after all 5 community cards have been exposed, ur winning hand, does it have to come from the selection of ur 2 pocket cards and 3 community cards?
or is it possible to use say 1 of ur pocket cards and 4 of the community cards??
thx for your time and consideration

any 5-card combination of the 7 cards. It could be all 5 community cards, 4 community cards and 1 hole card, or 3 community cards and 2 hole cards, any of those combinations work in HE.

the winning hand is the best 5 card hand. For example:
Let's say you hold A 5 and the board shows:
K J 8 9 3
Your opponent shows A 2, in this case, you would win as your best 5 card hand would be, A K J 8 9.
Another example would be when the board has a made hand like:
A K Q J 10
In this case, it would be a split pot as both of you have a straight.
hope this helps.

Umm.... that would be a split pot. Both players would have AKJ98. The 2 and the 5 they hold would not come into play.

Yes if two or more players have the same winning hand the pot will be split amoung them.
E.g.1
Board: A K Q J T
All active players will split the pot
E.g.2
Board: K Q J T 6
Player 1: A 2
Player 2: A 9
Player 3: K K
Players 1 and 2 split the pot

And player 3 should be allowed to kick them both in the teeth.

Oops, I stand corrected, replace the 9 with a 4 and the A 5 wins.
