I can count on one hand the number of live casino tourneys I have played. But last Sunday got to the final table in a $100+5 NL with 72 players. :D Short stacked the entire game, caught a hand here and there to stay alive. Made the final table but they were only paying out 6 places, so still on the bubble. Had to fold trips w 7 players and 2 all in bets in front of me. I fold I’m in the money. Stayed alive to finish in 4th for a $800 payday.

Yep. Grand Casino Mille Lacs. They have a Sunday weekly $100+5 that starts at 5pm. They start handing out line passes at 2pm. But in reality I think you could walk up at 4:30 and get in no problem.
I'll be giving it another shot next Sunday. I have a place to stay on the lake and took another Monday off. Gotta love summer up there. Fish all day, poker all night!

Is the tourney structured pretty well? Looks like it pays about top 10%. Cant beat fishing and poker in the same day!

Aside from handing out line passes and making you wait around to pay your entry, it's well run. I suggested to the tourney mgr that they just open it up at a certain time, first paid entries play. I was sitting there listening to her answer phone calls. Obviously players calling to enter the tourney only to be told "We don't know if it's full" stuff like that. Just tell everyone who calls to get thier ass down there. Worst case, you have a dozen guys who don't get in the tourney but are there with a couple hundered bucks burning a hole in thier pocket!
Started out with either $3000 or $3500 chips. Can't remember. But enough chips to see a few hands early when the blinds were low. 20 minute rounds, experienced dealers in a private room. No casino noise and no spectators other than busted players. Only knock is it's on a Sunday. Would be a 2 hour drive back to my house in the twin cities if im not off on Monday.
Headed out now. Hope I can make the cut again. Report on Tuesday.

I hope I do this well next week when I enter my first tourney.
Its probably a good thing I dont live anywhere near a casino or I would be there all the time.

Well, I aint quitting the day job.
Got knocked out in about 25th give or take 3-4 spots. Pocket queens all in pre flop one position behind the button. Big blind calls with pocket kings and it's over baby....
Never really had much to play with again. Was down to about half of the starting chips and felt I had to make a move. QQ looked pretty good at that point in the game.
