Im playing a 45+15 at Foxwoods with 20 minute rounds.
I have never played a casino tourney before and would like to know what to expect.
My only fear is getting dealt AA on the first hand to get called all in and beat by a stupid hand like 2 9 or something.
Anything you guys can tell me ill certainly appreciate.

with 20 minute rounds if you get a chip stack push HARD. Be EXTREMELY aggressive b/c stealing those blinds/antes when they're huge like that is essential.

Thanks I have been getting mixed advice from only play your best hands early to just sit back alltogether and wait for everyone to eliminate each other before I start to get really invloved.
20 minute blinds play more towards luck early and skill late I kinda think.

I think its the opposite..
When blinds are low you can afford to wait for hands, and skill reigns.
When blinds are high people get desperate and luck tends rule. They don't have time to wait for hands, make plays, and it's almost all who has what when they need to have it. For example, the late rounds of a Prima SnG or Party SnG. If you get a cold run when the blinds are level 5+, you can say goodbye.

Pat, are you playing in a daily tourney or the WPT ACT 1 qualifier?

Im playing in a daily on the 16th. I didnt know there was a WPT qualifier until after I reserved my room.

Yeah, they have WPT qualifiers, you can buy in at $60, $220, or %1050. If you buy in at $60, you sit with 9 other players. If you finish top 2, you get a ticket for the $220 buy in. Same format, sit with 9, finish top 2. Then you get a ticket for the $1050 buy in. Act 3 is 10-100 players, and you would need to finish 1 of every 10 to get the 10,000 for the main event in November. If you have an extra $60, check it out, they have Act 1 and 2's daily. It's basically sit and go style, once they have 10 players.
It's really hard to suggest a strategy. Every tourney is different. Different starting chip counts, and a lot of it depend on the other players' style of play. Like Silhouette said, early you should play tight when the blinds are low. That way you can get a feel for how others are playing as well. If you have a lot of loose players, just let them drop like flies and coast your way into the money. Easier said than done, but I think you get the idea.

I played in that tournie yesterday with two friends of mine.
The 1st hand I won I was dealt K 9 and made a raise from late position and got one caller the flop had two which included the Ace I made another bet and that guy called me again. The turn offered nothing and the river gave me another so I had the flush and went all in with the board offering no full house so I felt safe. That guy called me again. So I doubled up right there.
I got nothing for a while and about four people from my table got eliminated and these two guys came in with huge chip stacks and raised 20-30X the big blind with every hand and I had nothing to call with.
I got moved to another table and had about 6 thousand in chips and was short stacked and was on the buttone when 4 guys in front of me went all in. So im like to the guy next to me I can only have 1 or 2 hands to call this with and look down at my nemesis pocket kings.
Im thinking god must really hate me here so I called. One guy had QQ another had JJ and one with 10 10 and the 4th guy had AQ. I hit a K to seal the deal and really had a nice stack. I won another small pot then went to my 3rd table.
There were a few short stacks there with one guy going all in about 10 straight hands before he got trapped. There was a person there who was taking this very seriously staring everyone down. I winked at him once when I was in a hand. I was serious but I was standing on a ledge if I lost.
I made a raise with A9 and this short stack she came in with A8 and the board had nothing so I took her out.
The blinds got so huge that I made a stand with a Q10 and was eliminated in 23rd place and got $80.
I played a little more conservative than I wanted but this was my 1st tournie and wanted to see where my skill was at. I was pleased with my finish but wish I played a little better.

sounds like you played well. mind you it seems it was quite alot of effort for just $80, but i'm sure the expirence helped no end.

It’s experience and if you finished the night up that’s even better.
Nice one mate.
Keep playing, keep thinking, keep learning.

If you want to be a winning poker player then you seriously need to change your ways of thinking. Why WOULDN'T you want him to call with 2-9?? You make money off of donk's mistakes and I'll bet a million dollars on AA vs 2-9 everyday of the week. Also, you do know there are other ways to play AA other than going all-in preflop?

Yes I know how to play.
