Legality question at the table

I was there with Adam and Carson as this unfolded on an 8/16 table. Flop is K Q x x. The next card to come out on the river is also an x. Early position bettor bets out $16. The middle position guy raises to $32. The button guy folds. The early position guy considers for a moment... (hey Adam and Carson... remember that fish guy at the table sitting next to Adam? This was he.) So, the early position bettor ponders for a moment... then the guy on the button says, "I'll pay you eight to call." The early position guy calls. The raiser turns over K 9. Top pair... ok kicker. The fish has a queen pair. After the pot is pushed to the winner, the button man pays eight dollars to the caller.

So, does any of this "dealmaking" sound kinda fishy?

Sounds rotten to the core to me. The whole point of making a bet is that it puts a decision on the players still in the pot. When you bet on the end everybody wants to know what cards you have - it is just a question of whether one (or more) of them has the guts to put his (not anybody else's) money where his mouth is. If this kind of play is allowed then a bluff would never work - even in no limit. You could bet $200 into a $50 pot and the other 9 people on the table could club together to allow one guy to call it. If I was the guy who raised on the end there I would have cried foul and carried on crying foul even after I had taken down the pot.

i agree... i'd have to question the rules of play at whatever casino this was if this kind of action is allowed at a table. i'd likely choose to stay away from this casino in the future if this kind of behavior was allowed.

I'm not gonna say which casino it is... but let's just say that it's a major casino. Besides, I think in any poker room sometimes "questionable" activities are addressed on the spot only if someone says something.

If they were head up, I'd just laugh, but if there were other people in the game, they should've proably gave that guy a little fish-eye over that . . . I would have let it go if the dealer didn't care tho. . .
