Did you know that participating in a poker forum can help you improve your own game? Be it by sharing experiences or simply asking for help, participation in a forum helps you focus and keep 'on topic' which will help you improve your game. You can learn from other players feedback and from their experiences. Why the THP poker forums? We offer one of the best managed texas holdem poker forums available, and the community within is far more friendly than those typicaly found on other sites. We've made a 'lurkers edition' of the poker forum available here on Holdem Poker Online, but we encourage all visitors to register and join in on the conversations on TexasHoldem-Poker.com

Don't get into a raising war with the bottom end of a straight, especially with a pair on the board. You will lose.

You had the ignorant end of the str8 (btw, your straight was a 3 - 7) and again, the pair was on the board. With a hand like yours. the card you wanted to see was the Ace, for the nut str8.
This has nothing to do with reading people - it has to do with reading the board, which had 4 to the str8.

If you have a hand that could very well be behind don’t get into a raising war. That’s just common sense.
Don’t just assume a high hand will win. Hold’em is a community card game so hands are often very close.
You should have taken one look at the board and flat called his raise for value. That’s the advantage of FL and PL to new players, it limits the damage of your mistakes.
My advice is to invest in some literature mate.

Top tip: don't play crap like 23o and you won't have to make decisions like that.

I honestly think you need to work on reading the board first, then reading people. When you see a flop, try to imagine all the hands that it could have made and how likely your opponent would be to have any of those hands.

try to notice what you do when you bluff or when you have a monster and look for that in other ppl...also notice when you do it
