First NL experience in a B&M Casino |

I have been playing a lot of online NL and have worked my way up from .10/.25 /w $25 buy in to .50/1 with $100 buy in ring games.
I always buy-in for the maximum and constantly reload if my stack gets below $90 and I have a healthy enough bankroll that winning or losing $100 on any particular hand doesn't faze me.
However, a few weeks ago, I took a trip to Casino Niagara and played
$1/$2 NL for the first time (2nd time playing poker at a casino ever - first time was limit). The buy in was $100 which is the same amount I buy in for online (usually multi-tabling 2 or 3 at a time) so I thought I would be fine.
However, when I got to the table, I just froze up. Started playing SUPER TIGHT, folding starting hands I would usually play and playing tight-weak in general. Because of the session fees and blinds, my stack gradually dwindled.
Now, my question is, does everyone experience this type of scared play the first time they sit down at a casino table? What can I do to get back to playing the type of poker I play online (fearless but patient)? Advice would be appreciated.

Ouch. I haven't had the chance to play live NL yet. I have a feeling I would end up in the same situation.

I did that the first time I played a tournament at the casino. It made me mad when I thought back about the hands that I had folded. I was so weak tight I didn't stand a chance. Hopefully, next time I will be able to play my game.

i would suggest going to the lowest possible limit game if your nervous bout playing live, and play there for a while til u feel comfortable playing live, then jump back into NL its very different live then online

I experienced the same exact thing at the same exact casino. The first time I played in a casino was there at 3/6 (I usually play 2/4 online) and 3/6 Canadian is practically the same. I raised preflop once in 3 hours of play and it was with pocket aces. After 3 hours I was up $30 which was pretty bad considering how poor the average player at the table was. My girlfriend who turns a small profit at .5/1 on party played very well, made $100 and bought me dinner. So it was alright. 8)
So you're not the only one who played scared their first time.

I was very tight the first time I played live at a casino and was put all in on the first hand I played. Luckily I won that one and walked away with almost a $400 profit after an hour of playing.
Im going back tomorrow and plan to enter the tournie on Tuesday morning.
I think the jitters are to be expected. I was very nervous and that doesnt happen to me often at all.
So I would suggest going back and tell yourself while at the table to play your game and I think the nerves will go away especially after you win a pot and moves ahead in you total chip stack.

I played the EXACT same way when I first played in a live card room, it was 1/2 and before that I had only played online and little home games for .10/.25 or .25/.50. I was extremely intimidated and played maybe 10 hands all ngiht. I ended up losing 80 dollars and havent been back since

The first casino I played in was the MGM Grand in Vegas. The first day there, I was so nervous I almost threw up and only won about $40. I played catholic nun tight, and didn't even try and put any moves on anyone. I went back and played the next 3 days and each day saw my winnings go up with each visit.

I alternate pretty well between live games (not at a casino) and online, but I learned to play live first, and at a very aggressive table. These guys regularly raise 5x BB, often with garbage, and the straddle is very popular too.
It's a tough table to learn on, because any mistake or downswing and you'll be punished hard, but alot of money to be made. The thing is, after a few months of playing regularly there, I'm definetely in the black, but I've learned not to be afraid of the other people at the table. They're playing with the same cards I am, and they're probably not playing as well.
Trust yourself.
