Absolutely the worst hand of poker I've ever played... |

Just to show that I can acknowledge when I'm a dope...
I only had a few minutes left of playing time on Saturday, so I did a very bad thing. I jumped to the 5/10 N/L table ($1000 max buy-in) with about $400 thinking that I'd just sit for one round and see if I can get a good hand and make a few bucks. So, I fold a few hands until I get K8 suited on the small blind...suddenly this terrible hand struck my fancy and I decided to play it about as poorly as I could to piss away $330. Somewhere Gnug315 is telling his buddies about the easiest $330 he's ever made. (Somewhere along the way, I should have remembered that he was the Big Blind and the Blind didn't get raised...(ya think???)
I have to admit that when the river came, I actually thought I might have been saved...LOL.

Gnug's post on his forum is entitled "72o is Awesome!"

I can't imagine playing a 72o to begin with but I also can't see playing a K8 either. Once that flop hit though you should have known something was up in my opinion. If you get a cold call after a flop you might want to stop and do some thinking. Could that king really hold up? What are the odds that he could make a match to one of his cards and beat me? Odds were in either players favor but with the way luck usually runs we are not the player luck desides to shine on. Seriously, I often think to myself, unless I am on a draw or have an AX (x = high card), that if I have not made a pair yet and my oponent is calling me on every card, then perhaps he knows something I don't. That is usually when I check on the turn and see if they check or raise. If it is a check as well then I decide to check or raise on the river. With pairing on the river I would probably dropped a small bet on the river to see if my pair held. Then again I might have laid it down figuring he had a 7 in his hand and caught the tre-7's. Hard to say that is why I don't play crazy hands.
Just my opinion though.

72o was big blind in an unraised pot. K8s was small blind and limped in.

Wow. Kaboom! I ALMOST did the same last night around 3 am. I committed a MAJOR no no in the wee hours of the morning after a steady night of no cards.
I decided to take my VERY small bankroll to a much higher limits to see if I can do a quick double-up and make up my loses for the day.
I bought in for the $50 and bumped it to $150 fairly quickly, which made up for my loses. I should have quit then. But I get 10Js and the only other player preflop is this character he had been bluffing the last couple of hands. The flop gives me a pair of tens with a jack kicker, nothing higher on the board and he starts betting hard. By the river I was in for my whole $150. What the heck am I doing in the pot for $150 with 10's and a jack kicker?
Ironically he flips over crap at show down and I win the pot. :D
At that point I ran from the room and turned off the computer. If I'm that stupid, it's time for bed. Besides, I needed to get up for work in 2 hours.
Man... I wish I had remembered to add him to my buddy list.

Soupdog...congrats on doubling up that $150 to 3 bills. Seems like when i'm in that situation, the jack-ass decides to have QQ, KK or AA...LOL. Yeah, it was real dumb for me to move up to that limit, but it's all 1988 TR's fault because he wins so much at that limit. I just wanna be like him
Actually, my 2 biggest issues with my move was that 1, I don't have the bankroll for it right now, and 2, I should never play at a table short-stacked if I can help it. Sitting down short-stacked is not a good move because even if you play like a rock, you can lose it easily to someone who will call you with A10 (to ur KK) becaue damn it, they just don't respect your stack....and then you have nothing to recover with!
My play on that hand was just horrible because I forgot he was on the big blind. I actually convinced myself when my river 8 came that he probably just had Ace High and thought I did too....which was not any logical thinking at all based on the hand history. Sometimes I suffer from the need to rationalize why I'm still in a hand and unfortunately am able to convince myself of the reasonableness. I'm trying to get rid of these tendencies as well as to learn more patience. I'm too smart (imho) to be making such stupid moves.
Btw, I would not have called his river bet had I not caught that cursed 8.

Oh, I know exactly what you mean. I should never have been at that limit... I shouldn't have been playing on that little sleep... LOL, And I should never have called that hand all the way down. I just got lucky as hell.
And your right, that 8 on the river was a dagger. But like you said, you should never have been in there in the first place. Sorry man. Since it's TR's fault, make him pay you back! :D
