UTG = Under The Gun which means being sat to the left of the big blind and acting first before the flop.

Stealing from the button = not having much of a hand but raising as if you do to take the blinds. The reason doing it on the button is so effective is that by the time the action reaches you, there are only the two players in the blinds to play so the odds of someone having a better hand (assuming pretty much everyone else fold on the way round) are at their lowest. This move should generally NOT be done if either someone raised before it got to you or if there are 2 or 3 callers on the way round because chances are higher that if you throw out a raise with a junk hand to steal the pot, someone will call.

As for ESPN Pros....since the URL isn't working I'm gonna assume he just means pros that play on TV such as those seen in the World Poker Tour (WPT).

FYI: UTG+1 means is player one to the left of UTG. And CO means cut-off, which for some reason, is the player directly to the right of the button.

Another thing I think Salche is getting at, which I believe he posted a few days ago, is that "ESPN Pros" think that you can only steal from the button. You can still from any position, but the earlier the position, the better the chance that someone will re-raise or call you.

By ESPN Pros, I think Salche is referring to the people who play online whos only knowledge of the game comes from watching poker on TV. I know that they have mentioned stealing from the button many times and when a person raises from middle position with a weak hand they call him crazy, not stealing.

Personally I prefer to steal from middle position. Stealing from the button looks too obvious most times and the blinds will play back at you with marginal hands.

Haha I like it, witty and fits the type of people well.

Although I wouldn’t say “on-line” should be specified in the definition. I’ve played people at casinos who’ve only experience has been a couple of Late Night Poker episodes which they thought looked cool.

It's called the cut-off because, although the button has the best position, you are in a position of cut him off by stealing a pot before him.
