only just started playing hold em texas poker.. but come across a rule me and my mates cant quite work out.
I understand the kicker card, if two players have joint winning hand.
i also understand if in the following situation:
community card: K, 7, 7, 3, 5
Player 1: 5, Q
Player 2: 5, 10
then the pot would be split, both players using the K as the high card.
what happens in the situation where both have a pair? i.e.
community card: K, 8, 7, 3, 5
Player 1: 5, Q
Player 2: 5, 10
would both players use the K again, and therefore split the pot... or would player 1 win with the high of Queen??
Anybody help?

community card: K, 8, 7, 3, 5
Player 1: 5, Q
Player 2: 5, 10
player 1's hand would be: 5 5 K Q 8
player 2's hand would be:5 5 K 10 8
both have a pair and top kicker, player 1 wins as his second kicker is better.
community card: K, 7, 7, 3, 5
Player 1: 5, Q
Player 2: 5, 10
in this example you are correct in calling it a split pot as both players hands would be 7 7 5 5 K

Best 5 cards ALWAYS play. So yeah, in first situation, both would have 2 pair, 5's and 7's, with king kicker.
In second, Player 1 would have 5, 5, K, Q, 8. Player 2 would have 5, 5, K, 10, 8. So player 1 would have the better hand, because his Q kicker would play. Make sense?

community card: K, 8, 7, 3, 5
Player 1: 5, 3
Player 2: 5, 2
and in the above situation, you would split the pot?

no, player 1 has two pair 5 5 3 3 K
player 2 only has one pair 5 5 K 8 7
so player 1 wins.

It takes a while playing live to be confident of all the rules. It takes odd situations coming up a couple of times for you to get them ironed out.
