You can raise an unlimited amount of times in a heads up situation, as long as each raise is atleast the size of the previous one.

In a multiway pot, I believe most NL tables are capped at 4 consecutive raises.

The only time one cannot re-raise is usually if someone goes all in, and their raise is less than half of the previous one. I.E. If you raise 10 bucks, and everyone calls, except for one last person who re-raises to 14 dollars all in, the rest of the table can only call the 4 bucks or fold. They can't reraise on top of the 4 buck raise.

This is true online.

In live play, if the river is heads up, there is no limit to the amount of times you can raise.

Note: This is true in most places... not all.
