Did anyone watch this? Terrible, TERRIBLE program. The only thing it really did for me, as a fan of poker, was provide a (further) insight into minds of beginners and highlight exactly why playing against certain new starters is so very infuriating.
For anyone who may not have seen this, it is basically a "reality" show where poker virgins are playing for the first time against each other over a series of 9 weeks with the winner winning up to 100,000. The strange thing was that no-one actually knew what they were turning up to do - they went through an audition process not knowing what was at the end. There are five constestants and each week they will also be joined by an internet qualifier who can reduce the total prize if they win....
Is poker on TV meant to be educational or entertaining or both?? This was neither. I'm all for getting people into poker but getting people to play on TV when they haven't really been shown the basics other than format of the game (which is hold em) and the rankings just simply isn't fun to watch. You just end up screaming all kinds of obscenities at the screen.
Did you know that participating in a poker forum can help you improve your own game? Be it by sharing experiences or simply asking for help, participation in a forum helps you focus and keep 'on topic' which will help you improve your game. You can learn from other players feedback and from their experiences. Why the THP poker forums? We offer one of the best managed texas holdem poker forums available, and the community within is far more friendly than those typicaly found on other sites. We've made a 'lurkers edition' of the poker forum available here on Holdem Poker Online, but we encourage all visitors to register and join in on the conversations on TexasHoldem-Poker.com

Any program that doesn’t end with details of where the teacher can send off for a support pack, is intended for entertainment
Oh how I hope one of those internet qualifiers just comes in and rips the newbies apart.
When's this cr*p on? I must admit I watch anything involving poker or vampires

I caught this on Saturday night. Real train wreck poker, but hey they’ve only been playing for a few weeks so I shouldn’t expect too much.
The commentary is pretty annoying too because they try and explain how the players background will affect their play and how hard they will be to read. But they’re so poor they don’t know they’re playing a bad hand so reading is almost impossible.
The people have no openers. E.g. They’ll play any face card assuming if they hit they’ve won.
The people are blind to the action. E.g. UTG raise, next person calls, guy with 95o calls.
The people will not release a hand. E.g. 67o. Flop KQ6. Calls every bets to the end. Loses to a King.

Been watching this and it is interesting to see real novice players - I haven't playing poker very long... on the other hand, they are worse than most players would be after even a couple of weeks spent on poker, and it means that the games don't actually make for very entertaining viewing! Sheer luck over skill makes the winner every time.
