Protective coating for poking chips

Posted Wed Aug 24, 2005 8:49 pm GMT by Mag
Hi,

I have a set of 750 decent poker chips. They are by no means the quality of Nexgen or Paulson's, but they are heavy, 11.5g, easily stackable and look good. They are clay-composite with metal inserts. 40mm. They also have no labels.

The chips are, however, beginning to show minor wear. They have been used a fair amount and I would like to do something to protect them.

I have read that some out-of-factory chips are lacquer coated. Is it a good idea to coat them myself? I have flat lacquer at home. What about glosscotes, varnish or polyurethane?

Any suggestions on a coating solution is appreciated.

Thanks,

Ryan

You're using cheap chips. If they are showing signs of wear, buy new ones on eBay. You can get those sluggos for dirt cheap.

Even if you had expensive chips... don't put gloasscoating/varnish/laquer/polyurethane on them!
