What can I do to improve my game(winnings)

Posted Sun Feb 22, 2004 7:42 pm GMT by djbaseball24
Me and my friends play NL hold em with a $5 dollar buy in and antes. In 15 games, I won $14. No one is that good or that bad, so what can I do to get an edge on my friends. We are thinking about a $10 buy-in. Keep in mind we are 15 and 16 yr olds with no jobs.

The buy-in is not going to change anyone's chances at winning. It just takes seeing more and more hands to see how your friends play. As long as you get a good game down, you'll win in the end. That's probably a rather generic answer but it's true.

Wow, that kinda sounds like us at out game, 10 dollar buy in and young guys w/o jobs.

My advice is to buy a book or 2.

I got Brunsons Bible and it helped me.

If I had to guess, I'd say you were chasing to many draws . . . that's the classic begining mistake. . . you probably know the game and win in general, but spend to much money between winning hands. . . time to learn your pot odds . . .

i suggest you buy sklansky's theory of poker and he has a big section on this very topic. or you can go to this site on the left side and click on "calculating odds."

One thing to keep in mind when trying to improve your game is the players you are with. While reading poker books WILL improve your play (as I am a witness to this) keep in mind you are playing with other week players- who might also be chasing draws. Just remember that the professionals play differently than your audience.

The buy in won't change how much you win percentage wise. I suggest Lowering the blinds or use a preset betting limit, such as .5/1.
