Vegas and Underage

Posted Mon Aug 29, 2005 9:49 am GMT by Nathan_S
Allright I have been playing a game with some people online for quite a long time and we have decided that we need to do a vegas trip. The problem is that I am not quite 21 but they were telling me that it won't really matter and they will only card me if I win a jackpot or try cashing out alot of money. And they wouldn't card me while drinking either.

I found this hard to believe (but on the other hand it is Vegas). And I don't want to spend a few hundred on a plane ticket to not be able to drink and play with my buddies. So I was thinking who could I ask that might know for sure... Well a forum full of gamblers and poker players of course!

So what do you guys think?

I would wait...especially if you are pretty close.

Posted Mon Aug 29, 2005 12:48 pm GMT by 1988 TR
If you look underage or close, they will most likely card you.

Posted Mon Aug 29, 2005 3:07 pm GMT by Nathan_S
I can pull off being of age. But around MN where I live if I tried to go to a bar it doesn't matter how old you look/are. They card people with oxygen masks around here. Just don't know what its like in vegas.

Posted Mon Aug 29, 2005 3:43 pm GMT by zinn0
Nathan, just curious, when will you be 21?

Posted Mon Aug 29, 2005 3:48 pm GMT by Nathan_S
A little less than a year.

But you are right it does make more sense just to wait and see if they want to do another trip in a year. Spending a few hundred on a plane ticket and hotel doesn't make too much sense if I don't know for sure if I can get away with it.

Posted Mon Aug 29, 2005 4:44 pm GMT by Skribbles
It would be a pretty shitty trip if you got carded. All you could do is sit in your hotel room and spend your gambling money on hookers.

Hmm... maybe not so bad Wink

Your call man... but personally I wouldn't risk it. If you're having a good night at $3/$6 and they card you, you can lose every chip in front of you and not be able to do a thing about it.

Yeah, imagine getting carded, kicked out, and losing all the chips in front of you.

I got carded 3 times earlier this year while in a group and we are all 24 or older so I'd say don't risk it.

I am 26, look 35, and when I went to get on the list at the MGM, the first thing they wanted to see was my ID. Not saying that will happen to you, but, it happened to me. I would wait the year, save a few extra bucks, and get a hooker with your savings.

Posted Mon Aug 29, 2005 10:04 pm GMT by Nathan_S
Yea you guys have been the voice of reason. I think I will just sit this run out and try to get them to go again next year. It's really not a good idea spending all the money on the off chance they won't card me.

Not to mention all the paranoia you'll face with every hand. You won't play your normal game if you keep thinking about it too.

Honestly I probably wouldn't play all that much poker. I really want to go because I have been playing online games with the same people for a few years and have never met any of them. So a vegas trip is being arranged to have some fun. So some drinking would definatly be going on (lots of drinking + poker = going broke).

Let me be a bit of a contrarian and bad influence. If you just carry cash and no ID whatsoever, I think you would be OK. You cant play the bigger casinos, but the smaller places are too grateful for business to hassle people.

If you are asked for ID, just politely say that you dont have one and if you are asked to leave, then do so. Your excuse can be "I didnt want to have access to ATM and credit cards so I left me wallet in the room."

But, you are asking a lot of your friends. If you think they will hang out in dive casinos, or if you dont mind being alone, you can still do Vegas underaged.

Besides, there's a lot of other things to do in Vegas besides gambling, drinking, and hookers.

There's...well...there's...

Oh, all right then...

I was thinking about underaging it in A/C but i definately dont look 21 yet so im not sure id try it but is there any places in AC that dont card and can you get in any trouble like legal trouble or would that only be if you used a fake I.D?

if your on the east coast there is Foxwoods

The odd's on getting carded at Foxwoods is almost 10000/1.
I know at least 50people under 21 who play regurlery at Foxwoods.

as for Vegas most of the casino's realy dont card all that much and if u just use Cash its alot less likly to get your self carded.

im only 19 and i played all over atlantic city this summer without getting carded.. then again i do look a little older and im very tall 6"4.. but i wore jeans and a tshirt the whole time and no one ever looked my way.. I even ordered many drinks lol.. it was a good time.. I reccomend the poker room @ the wild wild west right next to ballys. Cant wait to turn 21 and goto vegas though i dont know if id get away with it there

I was there a few months back and got carded and i'm 29. In Reno in March I got carded and some kid who wasn't 21 yet got carded ne said he didn't have his id so he just got up and left. He got to take his chips with him at least. You won't be able to cash out without an id though. The cage will card you just about every time.

at my local casion they carded me hard core, they carded me once when i walked through the door and they asked for other identification and they swiped my drivers lisence. These ppl are hard core they don't want ppl who are of age taking there money legally, why would they want sum1 underage taking there money illegally. You will get carded more then once i guarentee it and they'll swipe you lisence.

Don't they have fake ID's anymore?

My kids never seem to have had any trouble creating them. I know my two younger sons just went into the license bureau and said they were an older brother, had all the info, and ended up with a dup of his license with their picture. I never found any of it out until the one used it for a speeding ticket and I was sorting it all out for the older one who was trying to prove he was out of the country on a Coast Guard cutter in the Carribean on the date of the infraction.

For the record, this is only an idle question. I in now way would encourage anyone to do anything like that. It's undoubtedly illegal, possibly felonious, and might get you into serious trouble. I think the whole losing your chips scenario make the underage casino visit not worth risking. By the way, I saw a kid carded right at the poker table when a player complained that he looked too young. He probably way, too--but whatever he had that said otherwise was convincing.

Posted Thu Sep 29, 2005 3:25 am GMT by JohnnyCache
Your kids actually went to the DMV and posed as someone else? That is brass man, I do believe I would salute my son for doing that after I was done kicking the tar out of him for defyin' my rules.

My take on the topic: I am 6'4," 330#s, with a beard, and a bass-ish voice. I'm 26 and I probably look a little older. I still get carded every once in a while. If a casino cards you and busts you while you're gambling they can kill ALL your chips, even ones you bought.

I wouldn't risk buying in. If you want to go with your friends, just never order a drink or throw a die yourself, you might be OK. Some of the people here who do vegas more, do they do the little ritual where they card the whole table or just card you when you order?

lol,,,I wouldn't bet on this either Skribbles. With the recent case where two high school kids got taken by some hookers I would almost bet even the hookers card in Vegas now.

i was never carded. i went to the MGM, the mirage, sahara, everywhere, i never even pulled it out i think. I also took down 2200d at the stratosphere on roulette and no one said anything, the pit boss came over shook my hand, walked with me to the cage and helped me cahs out.

I'm serious, don't just praise it. :D I'm 6'4" and short-legged, I need a lot of seat to roof room.

i took my bros info and got a real id with my picture yet his age...its just an id not a license so if it got scanned would it still pass?

Posted Mon Oct 03, 2005 6:05 pm GMT by mindgame
It'll pass. Remember...they don't give a damn how old you are. They just don't want the gambling oversight people to be able to bust THEM because they failed to do due dilegence in keeping you out of the casino. If, say, some guy with a grudge against you for sleeping with his wife or something walks in and sees you at the table and complains to management that you're only 15 years old how is anybody even going to prove you're not the guy on the ID????

They might ask for additional ID, maybe even picture ID...so have a Sams card or something with your gorgeous mug on it.

I refuse to think I gave you this idea, btw.

What ID is it? I’m just curious because the difficulty of obtaining it is usually directly proportional to its credibility. Still it’s better than nothing if someone does ask.

I was asked for ID yesterday. Sainsbury’s brought in a new rule that you have to look over 21 to not be asked, even though you only have to be 18 to buy alcohol.
